Manager back in the frame for Spurs job despite previous bad blood with Paratici

Paulo Fonseca could reportedly be in contention to become the Spurs manager again despite him previously suggesting that Fabio Paratici cost him the job in the first place.

It was a difficult summer for Tottenham as they took their time appointing a new manager to replace Jose Mourinho, with Nuno Espirito Santo eventually getting the gig.

It now looks like Nuno’s future is in serious doubt, as the Mirror join the list of sources stating that Spurs chiefs are set to hold talks over his future today.

Their report adds that Fonseca could be a contender to take over at the club again, having been targeted in the past.

It would be interesting to see this development at Tottenham, with Fonseca taking a bit of a dig at Paratici in an interview with the Telegraph last month, when he essentially said the former Juventus man wanted his own man to come in – someone with a more defensive brand of football.

“The agreement was done,” Fonseca said at the time. “We were planning the pre-season and Tottenham wanted an offensive coach. It wasn’t announced but we planned pre-season players.

“But things changed when the new managing director arrived and we didn’t agree with some ideas and he preferred another coach.

“I have some principles. I wanted to be coach of the great teams but I want the right project and a club where the people believe in my ideas, my way to play, and this didn’t happen with the managing director.

“It’s what the chairman and the sporting director (Steve Hitchen) asked for. To build a team who can play attractive and offensive football and I was ready for that. I cannot be a different way. All my teams will have these intentions. In Rome or Shakhtar in the Champions League against the biggest teams, I’m not sending out my teams to defend near their own box.”

In truth, this sounds a lot more like the man we want in charge of the team, though it’s a bit of an embarrassment that Paratici could now come crawling back to him after personally deciding against hiring him just a few months ago.
