Man City were worried £55m ace could join Tottenham this week

By Saikat -

Manchester City have agreed on a deal to sign the Belgian international winger Jeremy Doku.

The Premier League champions were keen on signing a winger to replace Riyad Mahrez and they were keeping tabs on the Crystal Palace star Michael Olise. However, they decided to pursue the 21-year-old Belgian eventually.

Manchester City managed to negotiate a fee of around €65 million for the talented young winger, but at one point they were not confident of signing the player.

A report from the Athletic claims that Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur entered the race to sign the winger and Rennes raised their asking price to €80 million. Manchester City were clearly not keen on entering a bidding war for the talented young attacker and it was Doku who pushed for a move to the Premier League champions.

The Belgian was not keen on joining any other Premier League club and his determination to join Pep Guardiola’s side helped get the deal across the line.

The Belgian is highly rated around Europe and he will add some much-needed pace and unpredictability to the Manchester City attack.

Although Doku needs to work on his end product, the Belgian remains one of the best dribblers around Europe right now. He will help Manchester City open up deep defences and create goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates.

It will be interesting to see if the 21-year-old can hold down a regular starting spot for his new club in the coming months.
