Man City tipped to wait for another striker in a boost to Tottenham’s chances of keeping Kane

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham has been handed a boost in their bid to keep Harry Kane with Manchester City now tipped to wait for Erling Haaland instead.

City has spent much of this transfer window pursuing a move for the England captain.

He had told Spurs he wants to leave at the end of last season and remains keen to change clubs.

However, Spurs don’t want to sell because they still want him to lead them to win trophies which they believe they can achieve under Nuno Espirito Santo.

City isn’t giving up yet, but another top striker who they can sign if they wait until the new year is Haaland.

The Norwegian is a goal machine and is much younger than Kane. He will become available for around £64million from January, according to The Daily Mail.

Former Leeds forward, Noel Whelan has tipped them to wait for him instead of landing Kane now as the England captain is at the end of his career, while Haaland still has a long way to go.

He told Football Insider” “I think that could have an impact on how far City are willing to go for Kane, especially when you consider the difference between Haaland and Harry Kane’s age.

“This is going to be Harry Kane’s last move where Haaland could be sold later on if need be, even though Man City don’t need to sell anyone.

“I know the fee is £64million but it sounds like the agent is putting people off with his demands. It’s a stumbling block for a lot of clubs and we don’t know where City stand on that.

“But Haaland ticks a lot of boxes so maybe it would be worth holding out for him.

“In Harry Kane, City could sign a ready-made Premier League striker who would score a hatful of goals for Man City.”

No reply button at Stewart Smith either.
Kane’s injury record is far worse than you stated. Since Sept 27th 2012, he has been injured fifteen times, with a total of four hundred and eleven days out, resulting in missing seventy five games. That defines him as injury prone and when you have as many ankle ligament injuries as he has done, they seldom heal completely and the player will be prone to a recurrence of the same injury.
I think it is fairly common knowledge that Levy valued him at circa £150 mill. Of course, he can ask what he wants, but as I posted yesterday, City were never going to pay that and are likely to wait for Haarland. Kane clearly wanted to leave and by stating that he will remain “this summer”, there is still an element of doubt as to his future and he clearly has an issue with Levy, imagined or not.
As we are not going to receive a fee for Kane, how will this affect our recruitment drive? We have shifted very little deadwood so far, probably as a result of Levy’s overpricing, so how is the side going to be strengthened and improved with only loan deals? I still feel that this was the optimum time to sell Kane and we will probably never know how much City offered but will it turn out to be in the club’s best interests to have kept him, I doubt it. Whether it’s a good thing or not is debatable but Simon Jordan has taken exactly the same line on Talksport today.

No ‘reply’ button??

@marbellaspur….

Not sure how HK saying he’s staying is seen as anything but HK chooses to stay at THFC regardless of the utter drivel that’s been in the press for the past 4 months.
Nobody knows the price Mr.Levy had in mind/asked, yes it’s an educated guess it’ll have been about £150m & who knows if Manchester City had offered say £130m + add-on’s, what would’ve happened. But they didn’t, allegedly tried doing a ‘lowball a-la-Levy’ & failed but is it really unreasonable to set a price & for Manchester City to negotiate it SENSIBLY & not in the modus operandi of Mr.Levy which most have a problem with & curse him for??
& ‘dodgy ankles??’ Can we dispel this myth, it is simply a very unlucky, unfortunate set of coincidences & here’s the facts –
1. R.ankle – bad tackle by a Sunderland player.
2. R.ankle – Milwall player fell on his leg in a challenge.
3. R.ankle – collided with Stoke(?) goalkeeper.
4. L.ankle – torn ligaments (poor challenge by Phil Jones).
5. L.ankle – caught on follow through of tackle by Fabien Delph.
6. Both ankles – Tiago trod on his right ankle & in process of challenge, rolled his left one.
7. R.ankle – Richarlison fell on it in a challenge.
So, NO ‘dodgy ankles’ there at all??
& HK has decided he’s staying BEFORE the window ends, HIS decision, not as reported in the press that he asked/wanted to leave on his last chat with the club a week or so ago, so why would he be unhappy? Didn’t look so on Sunday at Wolves, hasn’t in any training photo’s & I’m sure if the press had been correct, maybe he’d have gone on strike again to force a move?? Hahaha. But ok, let’s judge his performances over the season to see how ‘unhappy’ he is, the England captain risking his place in the national team with half hearted performances?? Don’t think so but we’ll see.
My guess is nobody has bid on any of the players some would like to see leave THFC, not much can be done about that but I’m not sure it was ever THFC’s intention to sell HK, bit maybe IF the right offer was put up, they would? I wouldn’t sell my house at 66% of it’s value (IF £150m is the correct HK price & City offered £100m) but l’d be willing negotiate any SENSIBLE offer. HK’s age is immaterial, (Juventus paid £90+m for a 33yr old CR7??), he IS the best no.9 in the world (my opinion) so with 2 years left on his contract next summer, he’s still £100m (my opinion) & whatever price THFC put on him, whoever if anyone wants him will have to put up or shut up, again.
I’m just glad the bs media circus is over & they’ve ALL made complete tw*ts of themselves with the incessant fabricated nonsense.

I agree with Marbella Spur this is a missed opportunity for Levy. This was the optimum time to cash in on him and City won’t wait now.

So what to expect from a clearly disappointed Kane?.I see him going on to break Jimmy Greaves’ goalscoring rcord for Spurs [for himself]and conitinue to run down his contract. In 2024 he will leave for nothing and Levy will be the big loser in all this.Kane could easily have a last big money move in him then.

What this means is without the Kane money we have probably finished our business in this market and as I opined recently we will continue the season with pretty much the same squad as before,How many of the new boys are even ready for the first team squad is anyone’s guess, but I assume it has to be named when the window shuts.

Same old, same old.And with his loan deals Levy will have actually spent very little, just how he likes it.

This is being dressed up by the MM as a victory for Levy. I see it as completely different. I posted the other day that I didn’t think City would pay £150 mill for a 28yr old with dodgy ankles and I felt Levy had priced him out of a deal. What are the consequences of Levy’s intransigence? We have kept an unhappy player this summer and probably this season. Does this mean that we now no longer have the funds to strengthen the team. After all, we appear to be struggling to offload the usual suspects, Aurier, Sissoko, Winks, Dier etc. What will be Kane worth at the end of this season? If we were ever serious about selling him, now was the time to do it and I think Levy has overplayed his hand with City. The initial reaction from the Spurs fans is one of relief and joy but I feel Levy has made a strategic mistake.

If we keep are only going in for ‘loans with an option to buy’ deals are we realistically going to sign any more ‘first choice’ level players this window? We seem desperate with this line of purchasing. Was the DoF only brought in to spend the Kane money…which now hasn’t happened. What’s his job now if there’s no cash?

Are we effectively broke according to our bean counters irrespective of anything? Or are we just full up with players impossible to shift? Seems frustrating, two decent players (a defender and a midfielder) and we could look set for a decent season…

So harry is staying…

What’s the chances of us actually doing some business before the end of the window because I feel this current team/squad is probably only good enough to fight for top 6 at best.

So City will most likely get Haaland as the player seems keen.

Chelsea are done, they have Lukaku.

Madrid want Mbappe, not interested in Kane it seems.

So that really leaves United or PSG as realistic destinations. United aren’t guaranteed a top four finish…heck they aren;’t guaranteed to have a better season than Spurs. PSG always have a load of top targets and how appealing is the French league to Harry?

He’s staying now…he could be staying permanently.

Do you think anymore transfers will happen for spurs before window closes next week?

So many ones which were being talked about have fallen by the wayside.

Squad seems unbalanced, need centre back/right back, holding midfielder and playmaker.

If we haven’t shifted deadwood by now, what’s the gameplan?
