This whopping assumption is based upon two guesses.
One, that player won’t want to play in the Championship if he has any genuine career aspirations.
And two, Vincent Tan might take the view that he could in one foul swoop, clear any outstanding obligations to THFC by selling Caulker, and instead pick up a couple of Championship grade players with the loose change.
So we then need to ask is young Steven better than what we already have?
Looking at Caulker’s stats for the season at Cardiff make for a pleasing read. 12 defensive actions and zero defensive errors. He created 9 chances and actually scored 5 times.
How does that compare with our existing personnel?
Michael Dawson played a pretty comparable number of games, 32. He made 11 defensive actions and 4 defensive errors. He created 7 chances and scored 0 goals.
Admittedly, Verts played fewer games. He was sidelined with an ankle/foot injury from 04/12/13 to 21/01/14 which he picked up against Fulham.
Jan made 7 defensive actions, and 3 defensive errors. He too created 9 chances, but scored 0 goals.
To compare Kaboul’s stats is to even further stretch things, as he only played 13 games. But then. perhaps this is a suitable juncture to make the point that Caulker stayed fit enough to play 38 games.
It’s my belief that Kaboul has “had it.” Where once we had a promising athlete, a bold defender with a shoot like a cannonball on him, we now have a guy who – when fit – seems to frequently looks a little a tad confused about matters.
So based upon that little lot, bringing back the Feltham born boy is a no brainer.
