Lucas Bergvall reveals what happened in the dressing room following the incident with Guglielmo Vicario during match vs Leicester City

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham summer signing Lucas Bergvall has opened up about the tense exchange with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario during the Premier League opener against Leicester City.

Bergvall, who officially joined Spurs on a five-year contract for €8.5 million, had impressed in pre-season and was eager to make his mark in his first league outing.

The incident unfolded in the 91st minute of the match, with the score tied at 1-1. After coming on as a substitute, Bergvall lost possession in a risky position near Tottenham’s box, leading to a critical save from Vicario to prevent Leicester from taking the lead.

Vicario was seen fuming at the youngster as he had a go at Bergvall immediately after, drawing attention from both fans and the media.

Reflecting on the situation, Bergvall explained that it was simply a case of heightened emotions in a crucial moment of the game.

He admitted his mistake but recognised that such moments are inevitable in the high-stakes environment of the Premier League.

The young midfielder claimed that he and Vicario have since talked it over, with both players understanding the intensity of the situation and moving forward from it.

Speaking to Swedish outlet Aftonbladet, as quoted by Football London, the teenager said:

“Sometimes you do slightly worse things, sometimes you do better things. We were 1-0 up with a fairly comfortable lead. We conceded 1-1 and then that happens [when he lost the ball].

“All is calm now. We have talked about it. Vicario said that there are hot feelings and things like that that happen.”
