“Liverpool could be in trouble against Tottenham” Spurs tipped to compound Liverpool’s misery

Steve McManaman is worried that Liverpool will be beaten by Tottenham when they next play in the Premier League.

The Reds have been on a poor run of form that has seen them lose their unbeaten home record, which stood since 2017.

Burnley beat them 1-0 at Anfield yesterday in another sorry night for the struggling champions who are now winless in 5 league games.

They will face Manchester United in the FA Cup next, but that game would be followed by a trip to Tottenham for a Premier League fixture that they must win.

Liverpool’s once-feared front three are now toothless and they even benched Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah for the Clarets game.

The win was a typical Burnley victory, with Sean Dyche’s men sitting deep and soaking up pressure from the Reds before hitting them on the counter.

In one of those counterattacks, Alisson Becker fouled Ashley Barnes, who dusted himself off to score the ensuing penalty.

McManaman believes that there is a similarity between Burnley’s style of play and that of Tottenham and tips Spurs to inflict more losses on Liverpool.

McManaman said on Premier League TV after the Burnley loss: “The way the opposition are playing is the way that Tottenham play.

“Less possession, sit back, know Liverpool’s weaknesses, and hit them on the counter, with better players than West Brom and teams that Liverpool have failed to beat.

“So, that’s why you think Liverpool could be in trouble against Tottenham.

“Liverpool will have more possession, even away from home, but Tottenham will be more decisive than Fulham were on the counter-attack and more decisive than the other teams on the counter-attack.

“And more dangerous.”
