Live KNVB Final: Ajax 2-0 Up

By The Boy -

Manchester United’s top-four hopes are over after Isaac Mbenza punished a shambolic – not Devilish – display to earn relegated Huddersfield a souvenir point to take with them to the Championship.

The Premier League table shows that Arsenal (currently leading Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0) are poised to pop into 4th this teatime.

Brighton are still in it, and making the Gunners work for their win.

This leaves Spurs with a mere Champions League semi final, with an away goal against us, plus a final game against an in-form Everton, to decide our fate.

Ajax are currently playing Willem II in the Dutch Cup Final, and at time of blogging have just scored two class goals in the space of a few minutes to go 2-0 up.

Success breeds success.

Here’s Ajax’s opening goal.

Here’s Ajax’s second goal.

Early last summer the Pooch rhetoric began along similar lines as what we are beginning to hear now. “We need to think and act like a big club” “We need to be brave”. Levy then offered him a new deal of 5 years at £8 million a year and suddenly he went all coy and started talking about being in a “different project” again blah blah blah. Here we are at the end of another season and the squad is imploding yet again and all of a sudden these little Pooch soundbites start to leak out. I suspect there will be more “talks” with Levy resulting in enhanced terms for Pooch and his little team. Then the club will sell Toby, and Eriksen and those funds will largely form the “transfer fund of £100 million” and we will replace with young largely unproven players which fits in with the player asset trading model ENIC use. Next to zero net investment yet again. Pooc going quiet again as the ink settles on his new contract and he starts saying how “appy he is ” with the squad yet again. Ground hog day once again at the new multi media NFL soccer stadium. The possible hiccup in this sad little tale is if Man Utd suddenly dump Ole boy as a result on no CL and offer the gig to Pooch with a bigger contract and bigger ambition.

Oh Lordy don’t even Cab, that would be thee most Spursy event in the history of Spursy events and i’d immediately have to move out of North London and never go online again ?
It’s been such a weird season for any Spurs fan blessed with working eyes and a nominally functioning brain; mentally walking a double edged sword all season; obviously wanting our team to do well but at the same time desperate that Baldy is in some way sanctioned for his continued footballing negligence and his industrial scale crushing of hope. I called us finishing 5/6th from third match in and stuck with it all season and although i am happy to be proved wrong, we have been poor all season, completely awful in patches but with the odd blip of excitement and coherence here and there. Mostly it’s been a torturous watch. Never been so underwhelmed to see us get CL, most likely because like many, i have genuine worries about how Levy will rationalise this into validation for continued fuckwittery and general soul destruction. Roll on Wednesday mate and lets hope for the blip of all blips!

I was just told off by a thick bloke on Twitter for suggesting I (not anyone else, just me) enjoyed watching Dutch and German football more in the last few games I’ve watched.

I was told that Liverpool and City played the best football.

These block buttons are great things, eh?

I’m not sure these particular statistics entirely prove that point, Paul; I think said teams have been pretty crap lately, though I guess in many leagues the better teams playing crap might still collect the points.

Mind you, we were suffering badly as a result of the title having been lost when we played Newcastle; wouldn’t expect Everton to beat us by four goals on our own patch. Hope these are not famous last words. And Chelsea are at Leicester in their last game, I believe. IF we could beat the Toffees and Leicester were just to hold Chelsea, we’d finish in third place.

Hi Paul hope your well mate.
Not secured yet i still remember us losing 5-1 to Newcastle and le arse winning 4-0 that day,i was on holiday with a arsenal fan and it was a fucking nightmare.
To be fair i cant see us not being top 4 though. We have been very lucky this year and Levy must have been having kittens yesterday ,i hope it might send him a message but have great doubts. Their are so many things wrong with the squad and i dont think we will get the quality we need to challenge for the top, losing players like Alderwield really winds me up it is a total no brainer .
Some fans were saying if we come 5th they would get great pleasure in sticking it to Levy ,fuck Levy in everyway possible but i want us in the champs league next season. Ive been waiting most of my life waiting for it whilst our most hated rivals have been involved . The other teams will spend money and will improve we can stick it to Levy in the future probably the very soon future. Catch ya on Wednesday night if your about fella.

On Radio Five today, listeners asked to nominate players they think are overrated and those they think are underrated (all clubs, not just Spurs!). Sissoko mentioned in the underrated category, while in the overrated group – and in agreement with Chris Sutton – Dele Ali!

Yes, so did I (and, I think DD)! I predicted Liverpool and City to fill first two places, with a hunch that the Reds would win the title (still think they might! They’ll beat Wolves for sure in my mind, so it’s a case of whether City will come successfully through their two games), with Chelsea to finish in third place. I did however fancy United to finish 4th!

Hugo’s Mates

Can we sign Hugo’s world cup mates?

The boy Kante from Cheatski – he’s not a happy bunny there and he has done the course and distance twice. Our back 4 need proper cover.

Then, the right back from Stuttgart and the left back from Athletico. We’ve got to be able to offer them a better pay level than the clubs they’re with now and get them to the Prem.

Mentality:

Poch says that no trophies, a stadium and UCL qualification is doing well. It does not feel like improvement. The players probably begin to feel now that losing away games by a single goal is doing not too bad. The losses at Burnley and especially Southampton where we had the lead after 70 minutes were sub-standard. It does not feel like improvement.

Poch spoke after the Burnley match that we were arrogant and not willing to accept the need to work hard. It felt like that yesterday where the Dier’s mid-field dive-in and Sissoko’s stupid tug-back for a card were brainless challenges where we couldn’t be arsed.

We took 10 cards against Cheatski. Yesterday Bournemouth had 1 card.We had 5Y / 2R.

Were we trying too hard? Did every Bournemouth player hid the deck in a ball at some time during the match. Were we too naive?

Same way we can have a 12 point lead and still need arsenal to screw it up.
1) we beat Ajax… players focus on final
2) we lose and players take rally mental holiday
3) Everton have nothing to lose so go guns blazing
4) Burnley nothing to lose and want to prove they can play. . final result we lose 3-0, arse win 5-0

Not likely i know, but if any team any season it’s us and this one.

Just checking but we have definitely made top 4 right? Even if we lose to toffees (i expect to) and Arse beat Burnley Munters FC we take 4th on goal difference – the only outside possibility is if we ship 4 and they notch 4 – which i’ll bet my nuts will not happen.

Kitchen sink time, if poch can find the plug to throw it at the last 2 games. 180 minutes to demonstrate they are worthy of the wages and guts to at least make a final. On past experience they will implode.

I’ll hold my hands up and say i was wrong about us dropping out of the top 4 but COME ON how the fuck are we there!?!

That said if shitty and cheatski both win their remaining fixtures i got the top 3 bang on from waaaay back.

Arse will draw or lose at Burnley, we will lose to Everton. Against Ajax i have no clue.

So next week…
Top 4 teams decided (order pending)
Europa slots decided (order pending)
Bottom 3 decided

Basically only title left to decide and city must lose least 1 of last 2 and Liverpool win to be anything but city title… talk about a boring finish.

Already being told to stop moaning as we are in the CL next season..!
1) we are not, still a chance of an 8 goal swing
2) 4th is just the CL qualifiers meaning more games next year
3) and most important… we are only 4th because arsenal are more inept than us.

Also heard “almost time tocelebrate st arseholes day” they only started banging on about st tottering day after they stopped winning things and top 4 was their annual target, i would rather we ignored them unless they directly impact us.
