Welcome to the match-day coverage of this London Derby. As the game goes by we will bring you the video of goals along with all the usual in-play moans and groans.

Bale starts, Dele does not. And there’s still no respite for Sonny…

Cheers mate good read and improves my morning more so.
Kanes stats are amazing ,he is amazing ,through all his injurys you just can’t keep a good man down.
Best assist record in the whole of Europe and will break spurs all time assist record very soon!

…..or Lo Celso,
who played so really good games in that position last season.

I’m dreaming of a midfield 3 of PEH, N’dombele & Lo Celso, the latter two switching roles from holding to attacking, hopefully just in time for the cup final

I think Jose has proven it can work as a tactic – his comments tend to suggest he’s found the squad a bit inflexible in adapting tactics from game to game and within games.

That because it worked for a few games they had an inclination to revert back as a safety crutch.

I actually believe him when he’s said he didn’t want the side to site on 1-0’s after 20 minutes – no serious coach would want that unless perhaps you’re playing a team far superior to yourselves.

Again he made the comment yesterday about not killing Palace and that he wanted the goal as a lesson to ‘not do that’ – invite the sort of pressure that encourages your opponent.

I’m not sure so much forced as just working out the strengths of what he’s got available and who is in form

Brilliant Article by Katherine Lucas in iNews

Jose did say to Kane, “I will take you to new heights”, & he’s taken his game to levels way beyond what Poch could have.

Only Player in the Prem to have…
25 Shots, created 25 chances & have 25 clearances.

56 Goals in 51 Appearances under the negative Jose.
Pretty Impressive.

& now we have Vinicius to sub in for lesser games in other competitions we now have Kane for the business end of the season 100% fit, with not much fear of injury for once.

Thing is, even if we win the two winnable things; Mickey Mouse and/or Ropey League, I cant see what alteration that makes to our ‘debt management’ anyway. Why would it change anything?

Two defensive kids didn’t work very well and we played like cr*p. Can’t think of any top sides that play with two these days.

Slightly worrying if you’re suggesting Jose was forced into changing to a more attacking emphasis?

Sissy is a good carrier of the ball when in form – can drive between the lines better than Winks.

out of what we have I would prefer to see Sissy as Tanguy’s back up.

Get Skippy back next year and hopefully he will be an upgrade on both though!

Hard to answer, they blow bit hot and cold, although mainly cold. Decent sometimes, most of the time fairly pance…

Yep, with only him and Aurier I wonder how they’d do against a player like Rashford cutting in off the left?!

The change of tactics sort of came with a change of personnel – maybe with Bale and Alli more ‘at it’ in training and Lamela fit again Jose just reassessed what he has at his disposal. With Sissy being really out of form and favour he just decided ‘back to the drawing board’ – I don’t have two defensive central mids so why pretend?

Classic line from Jose in the after match interview on bbc, “100+ goals scored this season…………. & we are a defensive team?

I bet Jose had to hold his tongue not to add a REALLY!!!!! at the end there.

& the Jose line earlier in that interview, “I was kinda happy wd concealed just before half time, coz I could see us sitting back a bit…….”

East Stand

Well said. My suspicion is that Jose hasn’t been playing a straight bat with either the fans or the media with the whole Bale thing.

It feels like Jose has had to have a climb down of some sort. I reckon he’ll finish the season and hopefully win something with us and then he could well move on. Even if we get top 4…

No worse than PEH and Sissy for me. Neither are great partners for PEH though. Both too slow and lack movement, Tanguy is the one you want in there.

Been held back for too long in my opinion. He’s improving game by game, he should have been involved earlier, even at 50% for set pieces if nothing else. Lamela, Moura and Bergwjin aren’t in the same bracket as a player like him.

We miss Jan more than we could have imagined. I’d have given him another two year deal, we were not ready to get rid of him. Baldy would only give him 12 months on reduced salary (apparently), pr*ck…

Reggie and Bale could definitely push us on with an added dimension of width and quality. The leash is off, at flipping last!! 😂

Attack has always been a decent form of defence. In that season when we had the joint best defensive record with Walker, Verts, Toby and Rose at the back we played a high intensity high press.

Zero low block going on whatsoever, sitting back encourages the opponent and asks for trouble in my opinion. Which is why hardly anyone plays like that anymore…

East Stand
East Stand

Reply to  MrChickenhead

Jose must take a bit of the heat for both his favouritism with Dier and the constant picking of Sissoko alongside PEH for months. That along with the low-block was holding us back for me.

Hopefully he’s accepted that this lot play better a different way? 🤔

MrChickenhead

Bale and Reggy giving the width and both can cross helps.

Defo, something has changed, maybe Mou worked out that we are better at attacking than defending. So what if we let a goal in, 13-1 agg over the last 4 games. Bale and Reggy are opening things up out wide too, now they are both fit.

Here, here.

As an addition I would like to see the PEH / Winks partnership resigned to history also!

We struggle in transition with those two together imho!!

East Stand
East Stand

Something changed a few games back, the low block went but we didn’t look confident going forward or in possession either. Now we are playing far more on the front foot with the ball.

Perhaps a team meeting took place between players and management, a summit of sorts?

“Look gaffer, this low block, low possession stuff just isn’t doing it for us. Either let the leash of us or face insurrection!” 🤔

Unfortunately Dier isn’t the leader coaches seem to think he is or could be, which would help him get away with not being good enough. I think Jose thought he could lead the back line. But he can’t and we’ve no leaders in our backline.

East Stand
East Stand

Majority of possession and shots, good play and players of quality making the difference.

If we’d have played like this all season, is have had zero complaints. Finding form at a good time in the season too.

Keep it up and consign the ‘low block’ as the only tactic to history please!

COYS!

Agreed, the premier league is getting tougher all the time though. The Fulhams and the palaces can get results on their day. The bottom can beat the top. This was alot more rare 15 and 20 years ago. Theres internationals and class in every club now. No game is a gimmie.. Look at Liverpool, lost to fulham, 6th straight home defeat! Madness.

Can this be the end to the Bale actually no good statistics. Since he forced Mourinho’s hand by outing him on instagram he’s scored 6 goals in 6 games and been the fulcrum of a transformation of this side. So bring on the Arse and let’s play the game in their half and batter the crap out of them.

Bales legs aren’t done yet… Considering all his injuries with us before, and at Madrid, means he hasn’t played loads all his career, so he’s a young 31 yr old, no way is he burnt out and done like many tried to claim..Bale really is back now 6 goals in 6 games, as long as he stays fit and keeps playing that form will come.

Great performance and a pattern emerging. We play Kane, Bale, and Son at the start of each match with Moura in behind the front three. We play Ndombele in the middle. Then if in control and in front around 65 mins plus we can bring on the likes of Lamela, Ali, and Lo Celso if needed or Sissoko to shield the backline. Good that Ndombele had a rest and Dele as well.
