Tottenham have been linked with a move for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder Marcus Edwards.
According to journalist Paul Brown, Daniel Levy did not want to let the 23-year-old leave the club in the past, and he could be looking to bring Edwards back to the London club where he can fulfil his potential.
He said to GiveMeSport: “Marcus Edwards is an interesting one. Obviously, at Spurs before, I think the link there has Levy’s fingerprints all over it.
“[It was] Something that he probably didn’t really want to do when they let the guy go and he’d love to have him back and fulfilling his potential at the club.”
Edwards left Tottenham in 2019 in order to play regular first-team football and he has developed into a quality player in recent seasons. Currently, at Sporting, Edwards exhibited his quality in the Champions League, especially against Tottenham earlier this season.
The talented attacking midfielder terrorised the Tottenham defence during Sporting’s group games with the London club. It will be interesting to see if Spurs can agree on a deal to bring him back to the club at the end of the season.
The player has previously admitted that he would like to return to the Premier League in the future.
Tottenham could certainly use a player like him in their ranks. The 23-year-old can operate as a winger as well as a central attacking midfielder. Spurs were linked with a number of attacking midfielders during the summer transfer window, including the likes of Christian Eriksen and Nicolo Zaniolo.
Edwards would add some much-needed creativity from the central position in the midfield, and he could prove to be a quality, long-term acquisition for Daniel Levy and Tottenham.
The 23-year-old knows the club well and he should be able to settle in and make an immediate impact next season.
