Less reliable than a coin toss: Tottenham’s once upon a time ace’s stock continues to sink

Total successful actions vs Liverpool 19.12.2021

Against Liverpool, Dele Alli was frankly appalling in so many respects. This is not an opinion, but a reflection upon really concerning numbers across a whole variety of disciplines.

The 25-year-old lost possession 21 times, and on 12 occasions this occurred in his own half.

Lost possession vs Saints 28.12.2021

Against Southampton – who played with 10 men for the most part – Dele only gave the ball away 11 times (on 7 occasions this was in the Tottenham half).

Total successful actions vs Saints 28.12.2021

Looking at his overall game against Saints, Dele’s total successful actions were a miserable 47%.

Let’s dwell upon that for a moment. The tossing of a coin, which requires no talent, gives you a 50-50 chance of a preferred outcome

One would hope that the outcomes of an elite athlete would be significantly better than this. However, as Dele has proved on numerous occasions now, giving him a football is likely to produce outcomes less favourable than calling a coin toss correctly.

If we look at this influence graphic, for an attacking midfielder who played for 65-minutes, this was a nondescript performance.

I take a view that Dele is merely another casualty of Daniel Levy’s focus upon his grand design. The time to sell Dele Alli was when he wasn’t delivering, but there was still optimism. Now, we have a player who is no longer in Gareth Southgate’s plans, no longer young, and no longer in demand. Oh, and no longer any good.

Totally agreed. Alli is awful, has been for years and anyone holding out for his rebirth should forget it.

Rather than kick a guy when he’s down I’ll give Conte a little more time to see if he can get something out of the lad. Victor Moses.

Lo Celso, Romero, and Ndombele have made me re-evaluate my priorities.

He is quality..him and a less knackered PEH . Shame there isn’t a decent midfielder to rotate. Whatever Winks is in terms of passing accuracy vision offensive play etc his defensive work is very poor. Unsure as to wether he can address this .

I don’t know when his contract is up,but i see him running it down as there will be no takers.

I wouldn’t even make him train with the kids as he is likely to be a bad influence on anyone looking to make a fist of a footballing career.

He’s his own worst enemy what with his outside interests apparently being more of a priority to him.

It shows the paucity of our recent transfer policy when ‘generally available for selection’ is a tick in the box! Can’t imagine that being something we recall when thinking of Waddle, Gazza, Klinsmann, Ginola, etc.

Yesterday was a miserable performance and the continuation of both a personal tragedy for the boy and the club. Was he any good is subjective but he won awards so he was respected by his peers and indeed coveted by the greatest manager whose ever managed in the English game in Sir Alex.
His is a lesson that others should heed. For instance Grealish has clearly failed to justify his transfer fee, he’s not in Peps best side even when he’s not behaving like the immature little boy he is. The idea that he should be in either his club side or national side before Sterling is pure fantasy

PEH is fantastic. Along with Son, one of the best buys I can remember. Inexpensive and great pros who are generally available for selection.

“ Oh ! and no longer any good”

Was he ever really that good ? He’s had moments in the spotlight for sure. I’ve always thought him a luxury player. That’s ok if the other 10 want to put in his share of the work. Sadly, that hasn’t always been the case and so his performances have declined.

He has always flattered to deceive in my book. Even when he was meant to be good he was just relying on lucky, fancy kicks and tricks. He was made to look better than he actually was by the likes of Erikson. There was never any real guts to his games. He has always been lightweight enough to be easily shoved off the ball. He has always lacked pace enough to beat a man. He has always been a shirker in training and he has never really fitted into a natural lineup.
Get him off the books ASAP.

Even at his best I felt he had a negative effect on eriksen, he took up positions where I wanted eriksen on the ball. He could finish but there is not much else to his game. Now he’s not scoring there’s nothing left.

Eddie Howe has gone on record as saying he doesn’t want Dele as “he doesn’t work hard enough”, so goodness knows where he goes. He’s a liability these days, who’d of thought it after that meteoric rise to fame? Personally I think he relied on Eriksen too much, and the fact we haven’t replaced him has impacted his game and especially his confidence.
Once again our failure to replace players we move on has hit us hard.

Should have been sold years ago. Offers absolutely nothing.

What do you guys think of Winks? Is there an interesting player in there or are we just hoping for an academy graduate to make it?
