Latest Transfer To Spurs Worth In Excess Of €30M Plus Kick Back To Youth Side

By The Boy -

After one time Spurs’ ace Rafa van der Vaart had gone to bed last night, the deal to sign Steven Bergwijn was finalized, according to several sources including Eindhoven Dagblad and De Telegraff.

The basic deal is said to be €30million, plus €2million in available bonuses, as well as a kickback to Ajax of some €150,000, where the player was primarily developed.

Precisely what Steven Bergwijn will add to Tottenham remains to be seen, a pal of mine Rotterdam was told by a PSV supporting friend, “If you’re still playing for PSV at 22, you’re not very good”, which is apparently a very Dutch thing to say.

PSV, much like Spurs are not having a wonderful season (they are currently 5th in the Eridivisie), so hopefully the lad knows he’s coming to make a difference, opposed give out high fives and sign autographs.

Unless José Mourinho has something revolutionary up his sleeve, then at first glance, Bergwijn is an obvious alternative to either Sonny or Moura.

With just a few days of the window to go, fans will be wondering if this is it, or there is an out and out striker on the way?

Agree QPR would be a good fit for him. They would also have some decent players around him. Eze who plays 10 for them is also a very good prospect, we were linked with at some stage.

Less money for better is my view. The dynamics at United was different. Jose is also aware how Levy operates.

Bringing in players like Gedson and Bergwijn suggests he’s intending to go 433, maybe using a false 9. So a midfield of Ndom LoCelso Gedson/Dier behind a front 3 of Sonny Dele Bergwijn. Could be a more dynamic, fast breaking spurs than the sideways, sideways, backwards one. Ideally something like the high-energy Napoli team of the mid 2010s rather than fag end Mourinho Man U. Would still like to see a recognised striker come in with a better goals to chances ratio than the current forwards. If not Parrot then a bigger unit like Mitrovic who would allow things to be mixed up when needed.

Troy at QPR with future spurs team mates would be good. I’d like to keep him around our squad but you can’t argue with first team games experience. If we don’t sign a striker (I think we will) he has to stay. Troy. Get out there and play son. Don’t leave London. (Unless to nip home.

” if given the time he will shake up this squad and turn it into a team that CAN win things”

He will definitely be given the time because levy is not going to pay off his contract. The questions are how big a fraction of the 400m he spent at Man U will he be allowed by enic and whether he can put less money to better use .

It’s good to see that we are active in the transfer window, and it’s much needed!! I’m sure Jose has a lot to do with it. I’m sure he had a good look at his squad by now and is very much aware of the limitations. Bergwijn will be more effective than Moura and will serve as a timely reminder to Son that he could be benched from time to time. I have seen Son lately putting in some average performances and Jose does not tolerate that. Jose is no idiot, if given the time he will shake up this squad and turn it into a team that CAN win things!

So much fuss was made about Eriksen and how great he is but I remember a player who just didn’t cut it in games that we really needed him. Also a terrible corner taker.

Still needed: DM, Striker, and RB.

From what I have seen and heard, he is one for the future, with maybe add something now to the long ball approach. Rafa generally has a good eye for talent (so I am told) so this lad may work, but honestly, if we have the money (£60m still remaining unspent on Dybala) then I would rather we bought a £60m defensive midfielder.
