According to the latest report, Antonio Conte has told Spurs he will only sign a new contract with the club if he fully backed in the transfer window.
His current contract expires in the summer of 2023 and it was reported by the Athletic back in October that talks were underway between Daniel Levy and the Italian manager over a new contract that would extend his stay at the North London club.
Conte made an immediate impact at Spurs since taking over the job and guided them into the top 4 securing their Champions League qualification ahead of rivals Arsenal.
It was reported previously that Conte will only sign a new deal if he is assured that his ambitions are matched by the club’s hierarchy. However, it looked as if talks were then on hold with the club set to start talks again during the World Cup break.
Now, The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has reported that the talks resumed on Monday and Spurs’ hierarchy are confident that the former Chelsea manager will sign a new deal.
The report details that any agreement over a new deal will be dependent not just on the ‘wages, duration and exit clauses’ but Conte also wants to know exactly what the Spurs board will be willing to offer him in terms of new signings in the January transfer window as well as going forward.
Conte has made his demands well known to the club now and if the club fails to agree on a new deal with the Italian, Spurs fans will know where the disagreement was. Also concerning will be Harry Kane’s future who is reportedly ‘monitoring’ Conte’s situation and will only sign a new deal his boss stays.
