La Liga star has ‘said no’ to Spurs following phone call but only ‘for now’

Barcelona forward Memphis Depay has reportedly said no to Tottenham, according to reports from Spain.

Spanish outlet, Sport, reports that the priority for Depay was to stay at Barcelona but he knows he will find it tough to get regular minutes and hence, is willing to listen to offers. However, it reports that ‘today he has said no to Tottenham’s interest as he prefers to explore’ other options.

It is clarified that the Dutch international ‘received the call from Tottenham a few days ago’, asking about his situation. Spurs have not made an official offer to Barcelona yet but ‘spoke with the player’, with the club’s permission.

Memphis was not interested in the offer though and ‘has ruled out Tottenham for now’, although if a better ‘concrete’ offer is made, he might reconsider. The reason for his reluctance to join Spurs as reported is that the player wants to be in a team ‘that can win titles’.

The former Manchester United man made a move to Barcelona from Lyon last summer but with just one year left on his contract and with the addition of Lewandowski, the club are looking at cashing on him now if a good offer comes.
