Just How Dreadful Was Steven Bergwijn Against Liverpool, Then?

Context is everything and if one were to start randomly exporting individual player stats from our trip to joyous Anfield, then there wasn’t one man in the Spurs squad who came out of things particularly well, bar Heung Son-Min. I’m Pierre Hojbjerg’s number one fan – and he had a horrible night.

The Bergwijn abuse I’ve addressed earlier. It stems from that morass of people on social media, of which very few have any value to add to any discussion. However, lurking in even darker corners of the Interwebs we can find football data, which if we look it at reasonably, can suggest all manner of insights.

Where Bergwijn went wrong, was attempting to do the stuff that fans tend to warm towards. In his 77-minutes, the Dutchman had two shots at goal, neither on target. Steven tried to cross the ball – that wasn’t successful. He made 18 challenges and only won the ball on 5 occasions. I could go on, a list of petty misdemeanours that if taken into consideration by an unreasonable drunk, could amount to high crimes indeed.

My Pro Tip for people like this is stick to watching MOTD. They take out all the duff bits, and serve up nice, bite size pieces that don’t require any understanding or lord forbid, tolerance.

EDIT I am given to understand that Steven has now put a limiter on his Instagram account. What delightful people we have amongst us.
