Journalist suggests Conte’s stance regarding Tottenham future might have changed

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

Following his explosive post-match interview after the Southampton game, the 53-year-old’s immediate future at the London club is in major doubt. There have been rumours that Tottenham could look to sack him before the end of the season.

The 53-year-old Italian manager questioned the commitment and attitude of his players during his post-match rant.

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has now claimed that the players are upset by Conte’s recent comments. The fact that the Italian manager questioned their commitment to the club has not come down well within the dressing room.

The Sky Sports journalist adds that Conte wanted to continue as the Tottenham manager until the end of the season but that stance might have changed now.

Apparently, the Italian manager did not engage in the post-match rant because he wanted to get sacked, Conte was simply venting out his frustrations regarding the recent performances.

Solhekol has added that there is a growing sense within the club that the Italian manager might find it difficult to continue at the London club until the end of the season.

“Antonio Conte is back in Italy and I think it’s touch and go if he keeps his job as Tottenham manager or not. It’s up to Daniel Levy now whether he takes any action over Conte,” Solhekol said.

“As far as the players go, they expect it’s a matter of time before he leaves. They’re upset by the fact he’s questioned their commitment to the club. My sense was this morning that Antonio Conte actually wanted to continue as Tottenham’s manager. But I’m not so sure now this lunchtime. My understanding is he didn’t speak out because he wanted to be sacked but because it’s been something inside him for a long time.

“I’ve been told now that there’s a growing sense that it will be difficult for him to continue as Spurs manager.”

In that case, it will be interesting to see who comes in as the 53-year-old’s replacement until the end of the season.
