Tottenham’s rocky start to the Premier League season has raised concerns around manager Ange Postecoglou, particularly following their recent 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby.
With only four points from their first four league games, Spurs currently find themselves in 13th place, far from where fans and pundits expected them.
Despite the external pressures, the mood within the club remains one of support for Postecoglou.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, while the disappointing results have sparked frustration outside the club, Tottenham’s hierarchy is fully behind their manager, viewing him as a long-term solution to building success at the club.
This approach is reminiscent of how Arsenal stood by Mikel Arteta during his early struggles before eventually finding success.
Postecoglou, who has been significantly backed in the summer transfer window, brought in key signings like Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert, Archie Gray, and Lucas Bergvall to bolster his squad. However, the new arrivals have yet to live up to their potential on the pitch, contributing to the team’s slow start.
Nevertheless, Ornstein reports that Spurs’ leadership is confident that, with time and continued support, Postecoglou will turn things around.
They believe that, like Arsenal’s resurgence under Arteta, Tottenham too can bounce back after an underwhelming start to the season.
Speaking on The Athletic FC podcast, Ornstein stated:
“So this noise and understandable reaction from a lot of the public, and Spurs fans post the north London derby defeat, I suspect will not be replicated inside the club and in the hierarchy.
“If they are fully behind Ange Postecoglou in the way that Arsenal were when Mikel Arteta was facing external pressure, then you’d like to think that in time, things will improve.
“Whether it’s in the way that Arsenal have, or better, or worse, we will have to wait and see.”
As the campaign progresses, the club is hopeful that Postecoglou’s vision and the summer signings will help Spurs climb up the table.
