Tottenham have made sign a centre-back their ‘main priority’ as per the latest from Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella.
As per the report Tottenham will be targeting a new defender as top priority after the injury to Micky van de Ven.
It has left Ange without a proper centre-back. Eric Dier is the only available centre-back they have but it has become very evident that he is not in the manager’s plans.
He played his first game against Chelsea as he came on to replace Brennan Johnson who was sacrificed following Romero’s red card.
He then made his first start of the season against Wolves which Spurs lost 2-1 with Jamie O’Hara blaming him for both the goals.
And if there was any doubt about Ange not preferring him, they were put to bed when he chose to start right-back Emerson Royal as a makeshift centre-back alongside Ben Davies against Villa.
The manager has reportedly very frankly told Dier about his position in his team and it is possible that he will be leaving in January.
This makes it absolutely necessary for Tottenham to sign a new centre-back or two in the January transfer window.
The report mentions that new sporting director is working hard and will be handing a short list to Levy and Co.
It claims that the club has joined the race to sign Jean-Clair Todibo and are also being linked with Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly.
It further adds that while a defender is their top most priority, Spurs will also be looking to add another wide attacker. With Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon both out, signing former Celtic winger Jota is a ‘possibility .
