Journalist reveals Jose Mourinho and Tottenham players position on qualifying for Europa League

It has to be said that not everyone is enamoured at the idea of playing Europa League football next season. There are some fans that want the club to miss out so they can concentrate on the Premier League next season and some that want European football no matter what competition it is.

What is not known is how Jose Mourinho and the players feel about the competition, it is a massive drop down from the Champions League that is for sure.

Well, The Athletic journalist Charles Eccleshare, who covers Tottenham for the website, was asked the following question in a live blog last night, Are we playing to avoid the Europa league? and this is how he responded,

“Europa League money is really important. And so as much as fans might not want it, it would be really bad news if Spurs didn’t qualify. Player-wise, it’s generally seen as better than nothing to be in the EL, and Mourinho definitely wants to qualify”

Eccleshare is obviously 100% correct, Mourinho would love to qualify, he loves winning competitions, the more the merrier, the club does need the money even if it is a shadow of what can be earned in the Champions League and players by their very nature are competitive and in my opinion, would also love to partake in the Europa League.

It should also not be forgotten that the Europa League is more than just a trophy, it is another route into the Champions League and the way things are going right now it may well represent our best chance of achieving that next season.

Whether Tottenham can qualify is questionable but it does not mean they will not try right up until the last possible moment.
