Journalist “pretty sure” Tottenham are looking at 30-yr-old World Cup finalist

Tottenham have been linked with a number of goalkeepers in recent weeks and they are thought to be keeping tabs on the Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez.

According to Dean Jones, Spurs are looking to bring in a goalkeeper at the end of the season and Martinez is on their radar along with England international Jordan Pickford.

Speaking to GMS, Dean Jones said: “A very interesting position at Spurs going forward. I do think they’re keeping an eye on the Pickford situation. I’m pretty sure they’re also looking at Emi Martinez and whether he might consider a move at the end of the season.”

Spurs star Hugo Lloris has regressed over the past year and he will need to be replaced soon. The Frenchman has been criticized for his poor performances this season and his errors have proven to be costly for the London club.

Antonio Conte needs to bring in a top-class replacement for Lloris and Martinez certainly seems like a quality option in theory.

The 30-year-old has been exceptional since his move to Aston Villa and he has firmly established himself as one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League. He has been magnificent for Argentina in the Copa America and the World Cup as well.

Martinez has played a key role in Argentina’s run to the World Cup final in Qatar. He will be hoping to help them win the trophy on Sunday.

There is no doubt that he would be a major coup if Spurs managed to pull it off. It remains to be seen whether Villa are prepared to let him leave at the end of the season.

Spurs are certainly a more ambitious side compared to Aston Villa and Martinez could get to play Champions League football with them. He would also get to work with a world-class manager like Conte.

There is no reason why the 30-year-old would snub the chance to join the Londoners if the two clubs can agree on a deal.
