Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the move for the Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand in recent months.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has now spoken to Tipsbladet regarding the transfer interest from Spurs and he has confirmed that the North London outfit have abandoned their pursuit of the defensive midfielder.
He has confirmed that Tottenham were linked with the player recently but they will not make a move for him in the summer. The 24-year-old has done quite well for Sporting CP and he could have been a useful option for Spurs.
Di Marzio said: “Tottenham were previously linked with him, but they are no longer interested in him. Barcelona, on the other hand, are definitely looking at him.”
With that said, they already have players like Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr at their disposal. They should look to sign a creative central midfielder instead.
Hjulmand has been a key player for Sporting CP this season and his performances have attracted the attention of the top clubs. He has two goals and four assists to his name as well. The 24-year-old is an expert when it comes to breaking up opposition attacks and shielding the back four.
Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from the club and the North London outfit should look to replace him adequately. They need someone who can control the tempo of the game and stitch the play together. They have been linked with the Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher recently and it will be interesting to see who they end up signing.
