Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Burnley manager Vincent Kompany in recent weeks.
The 36-year-old has guided Burnley back to the Premier League with several games to spare, and he has garnered a lot of praise for his managerial exploits this season.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has now revealed to Give Me Sport that the 36-year-old could be an exciting appointment for Tottenham and star striker Harry Kane could welcome the move.
He added that Kane will have been impressed with the job Kompany has done at Burnley this season.
O’Rourke told GMS: “I definitely think he’s got the personality; there are no doubts about that. He had that as a Manchester City captain and he was such a leader on and off the pitch at City and had such a successful period as Manchester City captain. I think he brings respect as well from players. Harry Kane was used to coming up against him as a player, so I’m sure he’ll be well aware of him as well and looking from the outside, he will have been impressed with the job he’s done at Burnley.”
It will be interesting to see if the 36-year-old is prepared to leave Burnley after guiding them back to the Premier League.
Tottenham are in need of a quality replacement for Antonio Conte, who was sacked earlier the season following his public outburst after a draw against Southampton. The Italian manager questioned the commitment and motivation of his players.
Tottenham have been linked with other managers like Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino as well. Kompany is a relatively inexperienced manager compared to the likes of Nagelsmann and Pochettino. The appointment could prove to be a bit of a gamble.
It will be interesting to see how the Tottenham fans react to the appointment if it goes through. The North London club have not won a trophy in years and they will be desperate to end their wait for silverware.
Bringing in a proven winner could appease the fan base and convince the top players to stay at the club.
