Jose Mourinho was quizzed about Tottenham’s quest to sign a new striker during Friday’s pre-Southampton press conference.
The name of 28-year-old Brazilian Willian Jose was put to the boss, who wasn’t keen to say anything much.
But Mourinho told the media, as quoted by football.london: “He is a Real Sociedad player. I don’t comment on players from other clubs.
“I can only speak about my players, it is a question of respect to the coaches and to the clubs where the players belong.”
Mourinho certainly did not rubbish the idea that the Sociedad forward was a wanted man in N17. He is likely just as desperate as us fans to see a new frontman arrive before next Friday’s transfer deadline.
And if Friday’s report by The Guardian is anything to go by, that recruitment process is likely to be a testing one.
The Guardian claimed that Jose was Mourinho’s main target but that Spurs are Sociedad were £11m apart in their valuations – with the La Liga club wanting £21m following a £10m bid for the player, who has a release clause in the region of £58.8m in his current contract.
