Jose Mourinho keen on highly-rated 21-year-old but price is a major issue

One player who has been linked with a move to Spurs for some time now is AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Italian attracted the interest of Spurs under the management of Mauricio Pochettino, and as he continues to shine for the Italian side, Jose Mourinho has maintained Spurs’ interest in his signature.

Italian Publication, La Repubblica as cited by SportWitness is claiming that the player has fallen out with his club after criticism he received from his manager.

Zaniolo has continued to put in some of the best performances by a player in his age group, but he was criticised by Paulo Fonseca for his performance in their game against Verona and he hasn’t taken it well.

The report adds that his current falling out now opens the door for Mourinho to act on his strong interest in the playmaker, but the transfer fee might be a problem.

AS Roma doesn’t want to sell as he is one of the most valuable players at the club right now.

Because of his importance, they have set an asking price of between €70-80m for any team looking to sign him.

Considering the coronavirus pandemic, that fee might be seen as a way to tell teams that they are not looking to move him on at the moment.

No matter how keen Mourinho is on adding him to his team, Spurs will struggle to spend that much on a player this summer.

That said, if the player is adamant he wants a move then Roma may have no choice but to cash in and that would open up the possibility of a deal being done on payment terms and that could be something that Daniel Levy would consider.

Unlikely though.
