Joe Rodon wins the dubious honour of being our best defender against Everton. He’s probably relieved that this comes without a trophy. The 23-year-old made 17 challenges and only failed to win the ball on one occasion.
Additionally, Rodon made 4 interceptions and only lost the ball 4 times.
When it came to that over-arching discipline of total actions that were successful, Joe hit 82%, which again was commendable.
Overall, Joe’s passing was decent, if not exceptional, with his accuracy hitting 84% in his 97-minutes.
Remind us again why we got rid of Gylfi. He’s still doing it and played his way back into the Everton side after I think Ancelotti thought he wasn’t good enough.
There was a moment when he stood over a free kick with Rodriguez and I thought what we could do with two specialists like that.Even harry is no better than Eriksen in his final two years with us.
People saying Mourinho just sitting on the sideline lifeless, uninterested, most of the players have given up on him and he’s given up on most of them.
If this continued into next season with big crowds in the stadium I’d actually be worried of what could happen between the players and fans.
I agree that Rodon was the one bright spark in what was a debacle of a defence. He had that air about him that suggested he could be a future captain. His experience will come from playing more regularly with Toby until he unfortunately leaves us in the summer.Toby that is.
Reguilon is more worrying though.Recent games have seen an alarming slump in form and last night was possibly his worst game for us.Yes the penalty was extremely soft, however his positioning was all over the place.Witness Gylfi’s second goal.It would appear the malaise suffered by most of the team now affects him.
Mourinho is the problem yesterdays chip paper
Considering he is so inexperienced of the egotistical attitudes and arrogance of certain players which is including that of the manager, Joe has done very well in coping with all that nonsense and settling into his new surroundings.
He is showing himself to be more than capable of being a regular starter and IF he can get to play in a settled back line and a more positive atmosphere for the players then he will only improve.
Well done lad !
I actually thought our best defender was Toby yesterday, in terms of decision making, passing & not allowing Richarlison too much space..Aurrier was terrible yet again difficult to see what he offers both offensively or defensively… Its also hard to see how Tanguy cant put in a stint for just one game in a week… its par for the course that if he & lo no show start they both have to come off due to fitness….. doesn’t leave Mourinho with many choices from the bench when this happens.
