Jermain Defoe claims Harry Kane wants to play with one Premier League star

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has claimed that Harry Kane would want to play alongside Leicester City star James Maddison.

He added that the player should be playing for England at the World Cup.

Defoe said (h/t HITC): “Every game you watch him, we keeping saying ‘here is another good performance. He’s so clever. Gets himself into positions just behind the midfield – every single game you see him, he gets better and better.

“But he has been the best player on the pitch. If we are basing on merit, then he should be going to the 2022 World Cup.

“Yes, it is surprising he only has one England cap. You look at the other players in that position, and we talk about stats and stuff, they don’t lie. It’s the consistency. That swagger he has got in big games. I don’t think it will faze him at a World Cup, whether it’s the quarter-final or semi-final. To get on the ball and create something out of nothing, he has that quality.

“For me, it’s simple. If you spoke to any centre-forward, whether that’s Harry Kane, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tammy Abraham and Callum Wilson. And you said, ‘would you want him behind feeding you?’

“I can guarantee you, all those forwards would say yes, at a major tournament.”

The 25-year-old Leicester midfielder has recently been linked with a move to Tottenham and it remains to be seen whether the Londoners decide to make a move for him in the coming windows.

Spurs could definitely use a quality attacking midfielder and Maddison certainly fits the bill. He will add creativity, flair and goals to the Tottenham side. The likes of Son Heung-Min, Kane and Richarlison will certainly benefit from his services. Furthermore, Maddison is lethal from free-kicks as well.

Antonio Conte has quality midfielders like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur at his disposal but they are lacking in craft and goals. Adding Maddison would give Spurs some much-needed balance in the middle of the park.

The Leicester ace has proven himself in the Premier League and he could make an immediate impact if he joins Spurs.

The Londoners have been linked with Nicolo Zaniolo as well. But Roma refused to sell the player during the summer transfer window.

A player of Maddison’s calibre will want to play in the Champions League and Spurs should be able to provide him with that platform. A move to the London club would be a tempting proposition for him.
