Pochettino is playing his role as the ultimate professional too well for comfort.
One can only presume that he is hoping that this staggering guano will somehow divert attention from the players.
“When we arrived here five years ago, the derby was a little bit ‘well it’s normally Arsenal always above Tottenham.’ But now the last two seasons we were above, and how they celebrate, of course it’s a derby but you start to see [those social media posts].
“It was a massive win for them, of course, and for us it was a massive disappointment – but it showed the respect that we got in the last few years with our performances, with our results.
“[Our chief scout] Steve Hitchen was at the Liverpool game against Everton and was watching our game before in the stadium – and when Arsenal scored the third goal all the Liverpool fans celebrated, like Arsenal celebrated after.
“It’s clear we’re doing something good. I love it when the people celebrate when they beat you. I don’t like it when the people don’t celebrate because it’s normal to beat Tottenham.”
So let’s recap.
When we get beaten – we’re not complete losers – we’re actually having the last laugh, because the size of the celebration reflects on what a huge scalp we are to take.
This is a fascinating strand of cognitive dissonance that few could spin out of nothing.
Through the looking glass barely describes this.
A remarkable feat.
They are cheering out of contempt, with derision.
They aren’t cheering with relief.
On the business with Steve Hitchen, this is another alarm bell.
When pressed as to why Hitchen was on Merseyside instead of at the north London derby, Pochettino joked: “There is maybe a big surprise in January!
“He went to enjoy the entertainment, the experience.”
Well I am please Mauricio thinks that our deadbeat of a chief scout being on a jolly in Merseyside provides and opportunity for mirth.
It beggars belief that THFC would be genuinely scouting anyone from either Liverpool side.
There is so much riding upon the outcome of the January window, this simply isn’t funny.
That 5-2 was right after the 5-0 win v Newcastle which was the advent of the dispicable disruption of our manager and team with the England job. The players were visibly effected. We still did enough to get 3rd but of course Mr Fulop ensured that wouldn’t happen.
Once v Arse. The 5-2. Poch is the excuse maker I assume.
Blind faith.
It’s a tough gig! Very high standards, these days. You gotta be devout.
I’ve come to the conclusion I’m not a real Spurs fan. I don’t meet the criteria nowadays. Oh well.
The unrivaled excuse-maker & writer of his won history, Redknapp, also threw away a 2 goal lead twice…
Gomes was what I was going to say, you beat me to the hipster call.
That meant alot to the gooners on Sunday, they’ve been shit for years and we are now a genuine scalp. Very diplomatic of Poch.
The press make up narratives, such as a swing in power in North London, and then create soap opera to follow.
I would be interested to know how many times we have faced a team in their first game since sacking off their manager? Seems a lot.
We weren’t favourites on Sunday according to my bookies.
*there for Gomes.
Dear me.
Come on you spurs. Ill be down there later watching you all, on and off the ball. YIDZ.
Podge’s usage of PR as interchangeable with BS appear merely to emphasise to what degree the corporate side of our club has infiltrated the football side.
The world’s most sought after man with no trophies is sounding sillier by the minute.
Poch is actually right. I have been a Spurs fan for more than 50 years and I can honestly say that I have never known the Arsenal fans to be so desperate to win a derby and the very fact that these days we can even go into a match at the Emerates as favourites shows how far we have come. So please, instead of spending your time sniping and spitting out your vitriolic nonsense why not get behind the best manager we’ve had in years.
I don’t read quite as much into the comments. It seems less of a cognitive dissonance to me and more of a coping mechanism and a tool to get his squad to respond in kind. He is likely being consistent with the message that he gives to the media and to the squad.
“Be glad that these matches mean so much to these top teams. They should mean that much to you as well. Now get your noses to the grindstone.”
This match really was a huge slap to the face. Arse delivered it at a truly pivotal point in the season. Not a simple matter with which to deal.
At least there are Premier league games now you can simply not fail to win no matter what injury list you have. Tonights Southampton fixture is one of those.
Wow this is gold from Poch. He has now entered the David Brent school of spin.
Agree with comments below Gomes looks a tasty player.
Where as many a fan and media pundit think Pochettino is some sort of Managerial wonder, I personally am starting to really despise this oily snake and his bull s h i t.
He had a purple patch when no-one else turned up and still produced nothing more than being best of the rest.
His arrogance and stubbornness has ran this small squad into the ground and it’s now got nothing left.
If he was a Roman emporer he’d be Nearly the Great , who built the greatest temple but on clay foundations which ultimately gave way when the real tests came.
I would hope he was here for Gomes? That is the only possibility as neither team would sell to us.
As for his comments – it is a compliment, a small solace that they consider our scalp and progress so celebration worthy. However, as you said, they used to celebrate before because they hated us. Liverpool is more of a new thing, but Arsenal have never won quietly.
Told you. Sturridge.
Under Poch we have been embarrassed in North London Derby’s more than once. Under Harry we went there and turned them over after trailing 2 nil, the likes of which will never be seen again and beat them at home comfortably at times. Last time I checked that was before Maurice turned up. Bunch of hokem. Under ENICs “progress” we have won once at Chelsea, once at Arsenal and once at Liverpool in 20 years. 2 of them was under Redknapp who was sacked by dickface. Keeep on spinning….
Blind faith.
