“It’s very difficult to make evaluations” – Antonio Conte discusses whether he has the players to improve Spurs now

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur is coming off one of the most humiliating losses in its history after a 2-1 loss to NŠ Mura in the UEFA Conference League. Spurs conceded a goal in the first 11 minutes of the match, leading to the defeat in stoppage time.

After the match Football.London relayed the comments made by Antonio Conte, who answered a question regarding the squad and whether the players he has now are enough to improve the team or if he’ll need recruits with the January window a few weeks away from opening.

Conte gave a political answer stating the difficulty of evaluating the squad, considering that he recently arrived at the English club and hasn’t had enough time with the team. Furthermore, he doesn’t want to lower any player’s confidence that isn’t already dealing with the embarrassment of the loss.

“In this moment it’s very difficult to make evaluations under this aspect, because you can see that in England a top team they are working many years with the same coaches, and they are improving each year, to reinforce the team. I think that we have to know that there is a lot of work to do. I’m not scared, but I want to be honest. We can put work, we can put everything, heart, passion, but we need a bit of time,” Conte said.

“I here for this because the club decided to change the club because there are problems, but the problems they are problems. I’m here to work, and I’m enthusiastic to work, to rebuild an important situation for Tottenham. We need time but also to do better in everything, everything. We have to do better in everything, everything, everything. To have ambition, ambition in football is important for me.”

Despite the answer, Conte knows which players at the moment he sees can fit the style he wants to play and which aren’t going to have a future at Spurs. So the January window presents an opportunity to fix the squad and mold it into his vision.

Solid for the national side. With regards to previous managers not playing him, well that didn’t work out too well?

He’s never had time to forge a partnership. I rate him highly.

none of the managers that he has played under played him. Not even Mason.

Not pointing at anyone on here, but there were a lot of folk who criticised Mourinho for throwing the players under a bus with some of his comments. The evidence points to that being the best place for a good number of them.

Rodon clearly needs a loan out to play regularly, I’m still. to be convinced by him but hen again he’s young. He needs to develop to be ready for a club our size, in my opinion.

I would give LoCelso more time, I feel he has suffered most from the managerial changes at the club and has had less of a run, often to make space for the likes of Dele, Moura, Tangy and Bergjwyn, (however you spell it). Out of all of them, he’s the only one that I have any faith might still work out.

Think your being unfair on Rodon. The rest – RIP.

this reminds me of the deadwood Poch needed to get rid of when he arroived. The problem is that 75% of this squad are just not good enough
Docherty
Sanchez
Dier
Rodon
Davies
Sessenyon
Skipp
Winks
Bergwyn
Alli
Ndombele
Lo Celso

Moura and Hjoberg only make the cut as they actually always put in a shift despite Hjoberg’s lack of technical ability and Moura’s wayward decision making.

This is a rebuild as we have no foundation. This will take3 windows to shift and beieive me. There won’t be many takers for the wages this lot are on.

You really have reached rock bottom when your world class manager arrives and tells the world that players are giving their all in training but they are just not good enough.

Problem is this – you start with a blank piece of paper and then write down the names of players you must keep
A very short list

This is a big test for both Paratici & Levy. In the run up to January if we start hearing the standard twaddle about “business is not easy to do in January” & “I’m happy with my squad, we just need time”. Then we know this season has been effectively written off.

All will be clear for Conte in January when the clown enters the circus tent to fail at his tricks.
