‘…it’s only words’ Tottenham ace admits talk is cheap

Lucas Moura in a recent interview stated his desperation to win a trophy with Tottenham while admitting this could be his last season with the club.

The Brazilian joined the North London club in 2017 from PSG and was an important part of Pochettino’s side. His best season for Spurs was the one in which they reached the Champions League final, a campaign Moura thoroughly enjoyed. However, under Conte he has fallen down the pecking order with Harry Kane and Son being at their peak while Dejan Kulusevski also hitting the ground running after his move last season.

Lucas Moura’s contract expires in 2023 but the club has the option to extend it for another year. When asked about his future at the club, he told football.london:

“I’m very, very happy at Tottenham. I love the club. I love the fans. I love everyone who works in the club, but of course I have a plan to go back to Brazil one day. I have at least one year in my contract, maybe two.

“I don’t know if the club will want me to sign another contract but I’m happy here. I just want to have the best season this season. I just want to win a trophy because this has been my objective here since the first day I arrived in the club, and I believe this season I can achieve this, and then we’ll see next season what is the desire of the club.”

“For this season it could be my last season here. It depends on the club. They have the option to extend for one more year. My first target of the season is to lift a trophy. I lifted a trophy with Sao Paulo, with Paris and with the national team, and I want a trophy here with Tottenham. I think we deserve it but it’s only words. You need to work for this.

Conte might have other plans for the Brazilian this season though. Despite him being played as a forward by Pochettino, Mourinho, and Conte, the Italian used him as a right wing-back in the pre-season friendly vs Sevilla and was left impressed by his performance. Could we be seeing a change of role for Moura?
