‘It wouldn’t surprise me at all…’ – Journalist drops exciting deadline day transfer hint

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown, Tottenham could make another signing on deadline day once some of their “misfits” start to leave.

Antonio Conte has brought in six new players this summer, which will increase to seven once Destiny Udogie’s move from Udinese is confirmed, but Brown believes that further incomings may be contingent on Spurs’ ability to offload the unwanted players.

Despite doing some impressive business early in the window, the north Londoners are having difficulty trying to get rid of players. The only prominent players they have managed to offload are Steven Bergwijn (to Ajax for £26m), Joe Rodon (on loan to Rennes), and as of yesterday, Giovani Lo Celso (loaned to Villareal). However, they are still yet to agree deals for the likes of Harry Winks, Japhet Tanganga, Sergio Reguilon, and Tanguy Ndombele none of whom are in Conte’s plans this summer.

Tottenham are reportedly also hoping to bring in additional reinforcements before the 1 September deadline, but Brown believes they may have to wait until the last day of the window to act.

He told GIVEMESPORT:

“It wouldn’t surprise me at all if we started to see some of Spurs’ misfits leaving and he suddenly spots someone he wants on deadline day and they bring another one in, but I don’t think there will be a huge amount of money changing at Spurs for the rest of the window.”

Conte has already addressed several key areas that needed addressing this summer but there are two positions in specific that still needs attention. Conte needs another centre-back and an attacking midfielder with the latter being the priority. The club has been linked with the likes of Zaniolo and Maddison all summer but at this point, it seems unlikely that Spurs will be able to strike a deal for any of them before the window shuts. But with all focus on outgoings now, deadline day could turn out to be an exciting one for Spurs fans.
