‘it was always my ambition’: Former Tottenham coach reveals why he wanted to join Chelsea

By Saikat -

Former Tottenham coach Saul Isaksson-Hurst who currently runs a business that coaches Premier League players had spent the majority of his years coaching some of the best young talents in England.

He was in the coaching job for 18 years during which he was a part of the Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal youth academies.

Isaksson-Hurst was a part of the Spurs setup from 2006 to 2012. During his time at the North London club, he had a lot of success as he helped the club nurture quite a few top talents. He ended up leaving them in 2012 to join rivals Chelsea and while talking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast he admitted that he always had the desire to work at Chelsea.

Isaksson-Hurst said: “When I was at Tottenham, it was always my ambition to work at Chelsea. Chelsea were the biggest and best in England at the time in terms of investment and their approach.”

The former Tottenham youth coach felt that the Blues had a better academy setup than the Lilywhites. They had the desire to be the best in the world and their aggressive approach is what made them superior.

Isaksson-Hurst felt the Blues were the biggest and best academy in England during the late 2000s and the early 2010s. They had invested a lot into their academy and their approach ensured they were a cut above the rest.

Chelsea have built a formidable youth setup over the years

The former Chelsea youth coach spoke about how good the Spurs youth academy was but according to him, Chelsea’s mindset is what separated them from the rest. They wanted to have the best academy in the world and they were working towards it aggressively.

The Blues wanted to be the best in every department from planning to preparation. There was a clear difference in the mentality and approach of the people who were working in the Chelsea academy in comparison to those who were at the Spurs academy.
