Is Daniel Levy holding back Tottenham’s managerial search by micromanaging?

Tottenham has been searching for a new manager for the better part of three months, yet they don’t appear close to appointing one at the moment.

The Lilywhites is one of England’s top clubs and most people would have thought naming a replacement for Jose Mourinho would be fairly straightforward.

But it is far from that at the moment and one reason could be Daniel Levy’s style of leading the club.

Spurs came close to naming Antonio Conte and Paulo Fonseca as their newest manager in recent weeks, but both deals fell through.

It was believed to be for financial reasons and Football Insider columnist, Kieran Maguire is claiming that Levy is a micromanager and has the final say in Tottenham’s search for a new boss.

He says the buck stops with Levy on everything that happens at Tottenham and he would have already set the budget for a new manager.

If a target wants more money than he has budgeted, the deal will fall through because he is not always flexible.

“Everything at Spurs is determined by Daniel Levy,” he told Football Insider.

“He micromanages everything. If he feels that the price being asked for a potential manager is too high, then it goes no further.

“There are no specific calculations made. Instead, it just comes down to what Daniel’s max is.

“He isn’t always very flexible and therefore that tends to be the determinant in many of the decisions that are made by Spurs in terms of recruitment and retention.”
