Insider reveals the real reason why Spurs didn’t make an offer for James Maddison despite interest

Tottenham had an interest in James Maddison during the summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones, but the North London club were not encouraged to bid for the midfielder by Leicester.

Spurs were said to be looking for a creative playmaker all transfer window with the likes of Zaniolo, Maddison, Barella, and Ruslan Malinovskyi all linked but Antonio Conte’s side failed to sign an attacking midfielder before the transfer deadline, with Maddison remaining at the King Power Stadium.

Maddison has two years remaining on his contract with the Foxes, and considering the horrible start to the season for Brendan Rodgers’ men, Jones believes the Englishman will make a decision about his future at the end of this season.

He also revealed the actual reason why Spurs did not make an offer for him in the summer. He told GiveMeSport:

“He’s a great player and he will have a decision to make over his future at the end of this season, I think.

“Tottenham do like him but they were not given any encouragement that he would be available for anyone to buy, so it was felt they had enough to get by for now.”

Perhaps had Spurs tried their luck, a cheeky bid for him in the summer would have unsettled him for sure which could have prompted him to push for a move considering there were reports suggesting he was looking forward to a move to either Spurs or Arsenal.
