History suggests Spurs are unlikely to be busy this winter [infographic]

In 5 winter windows (including this one so far) Tottenham has done no business at all over the last decade. Equally, we can see that in the past that Antonio Conte has not been a prolific spender in the month of January.

Perhaps appropriately enough, we’ve been linked with very few potential options that seem particularly plausible. Furthermore, there’s the business of the financial impact of the pandemic to factor in.

Attendances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are down, and this may be down to poor performances, or fans being reticent about returning to the large venues. Either way, the stage is not set for a big spend up.

This has been the case for a long time. Enic’s key objective is simply CL qualification and the revenue that comes with it, and to achieve it with the least spending possible. Winning trophies/titles doesn’t factor into the model. As a regular contributor here points out, glory costs too much.

Like the majority of our signings. We tend to hit lucky in 1/10 The constant in all these signings being one Daniel Levy.

A lockdown only delays it doesn’t stop. There’s plenty of peer reviewed stuff out there re: lockdowns don’t work. Scotland’s chief science officer said this last week. None of the measures they put in place made any difference he said. Hence. All restrictions being lifted on Monday.

Scandalous really isn’t it? All of those wasted millions on dud players that we can’t recoup on, the incredibly over budget stadium.

In my line if work, executives have walked due to failed software deployments because it cost the company 100k and they were responsible.
Levy just cruises from one financial disaster to the next, all the while believing he is the master of pwudence.

I would wager he needs to spend a lot more than he thinks he does after years of neglect on the pitch. Conte can’t turn water into wine as good as he undoubtedly is.

Yep, Champions League games at the new place is essential to the marketing of the stadium. Levy will pay just as much as he needs to to achieve that end, and not penny more…

About these bonkers measures in place; ‘It’s to stop it spreading you idiot’ was the reply from a one off poster on here just under a week ago.

Well, it’s not, it’s about teams picking when to play. If you actually want to ‘stop it spreading’ then you would need a full lockdown, especially seeing as Omnicron spreads easier. Nobody wants a full lockdown and there is no need for one, neither is there any need for more pointless virtue signalling by the FA. It’s farcical…

If you haven’t had any vax then it’s down to you what you do. The booster though is an utter waste of time for the non-vunerable and a belt & braces for the vulnerable. Pfizer’s last chance to get jabs done before the endemic phase translates into actual policy…

Wages scared Levy off, whereas a Wolves player fits the profile. Coutinho would have been an excellent addition.

Letting Coutinho slip though our fingers is scandalous. Instead we’re linked with Traore. A steroid on legs.

I think there might be a few ‘plonkers’ on this forum, and I’m one of them. And I can tell you if I don’t go, it isn’t because of some virus this gives mild cold like symptoms. Watching football played by a Levy ravaged team will probably make me feel more unwell.

The consequences of your “Why would they” comment has just hit home for me as I realise their sole target being achieved they would be satisfied with the revenue earned from CL Qualification and supposedly full house attendances… OMGoodness !

Other than covid I think it’s the damn uncertainty of knowing whether the bloody game is even going to happen when they say it’s going to happen.

If you had to do anything more than just jump on the Victoria line and had bugger all else to do of a weekend then fine, but otherwise you make all these plans and block out dates etc to then stand the very real chance of them calling it off anyway, thats definitely putting me off of bothering.

I really don’t think that outside of this fine establishment there are thousands upon thousands of Spurs fans so disgruntled that they are boycotting games to the tune of 20 thousand fewer turning up. Wishful thinking IMO.

Maybe I’m missing something but what has changed at Spurs now to expect this window to be any different from the recent past?

Its the drinking on the concourse that I thought didn’t exactly feel like a particularly “safe” environment.

Not that it stopped me mind you, but if I had a touch of the old “underlying health issues” I don’t think I’d have been feeling too comfortable.

History also tells us we wont win anything! As for the attendances are other clubs suffering? I don’t think so, or are the official attendances at Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal et al counting bought season tickets even if the seat isn’t filled?

It would be great if our support did stop going to prove a point to Levy that it is our club and we want him and Lewis gone. What have we to look forward to having been duped for so long?

When you’re only getting 9000 more than the old WHL capacity to attend the Liverpool match (don’t think it had anything to do with Covid or Christmas) what’s have ENIC achieved??

We are just a property portfolio now who happens to also have 11 geezers running around on a piece of grass about 29 times a season.

It’s like the challenge you get, well who would you buy in the transfer window.

When they start paying me a couple of hundred grand I’ll let you know.

It’s basically just a cold now for 99% of people, why cancel a season ticket just because you might catch a cold? The only ones I could understand would be those plonkers who haven’t vaccinated.

Most of us have been there. It’s still an outdoor environment with any germs dissipating upwards into the fresh air. No worse than a busy outside party I’d of thought, or even a Downing St. one! I know plenty of people who have become disillusioned with awaiting the jam tomorrow promises and have canceled their season tickets, nothing to do with covid though, after all why cancel just for that when we’re over the worst of it and currently it’s about as dangerous as the common cold if you’ve been jabbed?

And yet astonishingly some bookmakers have us as favourites to finish fourth.

If we do get Champions League football then there is no incentive for the “board” to spend decent money. Why would they?

And when we do finally do some significant transfer business, we (or Levy rather) mess it up. We buy duds! Sanchez and Ndombele are two prime examples.

The problem with the Omnicron variant is mainly do with the inappropriate measures still in place. It’s everywhere so go to a game and run a significant risk of picking it up. So, if you have any travel plans coming up, don’t want to have to stay at home from work and basically totally disrupt your life, then why risk it? Unless you feel the risk of government measures f*cking up your life is worth it?

We are now in the ‘endemic’ phase, all pandemics last a maximum of three years, even without vaccines, such as Spanish Flu and SARS did. Herd immunity via prior infection and/or vaccination, as well as the dominant strain causing far milder symptoms means the picture has changed.

You want people to fully engage with life outside of their homes again, stop this continuing lunacy at once…

One issue to mention is the problem for the tourists having travel problems, and just my opinion but it’s probable that Conte has had squads that didn’t really require additions unlike this one.

I agree. It’s rarely enjoyable watching spurs nowadays. I’m a member and tickets are averaging 50 odd quid. That’s a lot for watching such an average team. I took my son to the Morecambe game, it was his first. The poor performance (again) and subdued atmosphere don’t make for entertaining viewing. Even my son looked bored.

Levy peddled the myth about the fans having “no compwehension” of what it takes to get a transfer done. Of course we don’t, we don’t run a football club which is what you’re supposed to be doing.

However, the one things fans do have a “compwehension” of is that other clubs do more transfer business than us and whatever is involved is seemingly less of a incomprehensible challenge for them, than it seems to be for you Daniel.

No other club goes over a year without doing a single transfer deal, it was unprecedented in top flight football. So well done for being the first, and for the shambles of a squad we now have because of your clearly outstanding stewardship of our football club. Stop patronising the fans and grow up…

The latest fanny is Paratici ‘pushing’ for Weston McKinnie. Who is described as a ‘talisman’ and ‘leader’. He’s 23 and has never played in England before, leader? Really? 🤔

We could also be forgiven for thinking history suggests Daniel Levy views transfer windows as a MacGuffin – a plot device used to keep his story moving forward, but is largely insignificant in the grand scheme.

Having been to the Best Stadium in the World™ for one of these games, I can tell you it certainly doesn’t feel like being outdoors. It feels a lot like 40 thousand people shouting into your pre-match beer with not a mask in sight!

I think covid accounts for some if not most of it, I have pals in the “at risk” category who have already decided they’re not risking it this season.

I don’t think attendances are down because of the latest covid, most people understand that this is a much milder variant especially when combined with the vaccines, and being outdoors watching football probably makes you safer than being indoors or going out to the pub or restaurant. Attendances are down because more and more fans are becoming disillusioned with Levy and enic’s smoke and mirrors and downright lies. Many season tickets holders are cancelling because they have seen our decline and downward spiral over the last few years. Why subsidise a business that is basically ripping you off?
People don’t want to spend their hard earned cash to pay for the highest ticket prices in the league to watch a team that is very unlikely to ever see top 4 again let alone win a trophy without drastic spending to compensate.
The only time Levy talks about big transfers is at season ticket renewal time. He has cried wolf too many times and got fans backs up, at least the intelligent ones.

I genuinely believe the fans are letting their feet do the talking and refusing to attend matches anymore…..I know I’m one of them

For too long now the owners have abused the fanbase, read somewhere the food and drink in the stadium has been hiked by 8%

Wonder how many diehard supporters will renew season tickets? if no investment is fourth coming for the pitch.

As Keith Burkingshaw once said “there used to be a football club here”

I think the trend of matches not selling out will continue even after the covid fear mongering passes. Levy will then have to properly face the music.
