Home » In Defense Of Poch
My thanks to Billy The Yid!

I’ve grown a little tired of hearing people slag off the manager of our football club. Not any football club. Ours. And that is about where the links with managing pretty much any other club stop.

No other manager has had to endure the constant guano Poch has from the English National Investment Company.

So what are the arguments against him? He picks weak sides in the cup? Yep I’d say he probably does. But there are questions to be asked here.

Why must he choose? Because there’s no investment in the squad. It’s like a pensioner having to decide what to do, eat or stay warm.

Is he choosing? Possibly. But equally possible is there’s a phone call from a certain individual explaining the need for the Champions League cash to keep rolling in. Which will be to cover the huge foul ups made elsewhere.

He should stand up and shout? Do you do that with your boss? As Balague has stated, behind the scenes it looks as if he may well be doing just that, but for reasons known to him, he tries to keep a poker face in front of the press.

Maurico has certainly made mistakes in terms of selection of players, but Harry Kane has made mistakes as well. It’s part of being human.

We should get someone else in place?? Like who?? Who do you realistically think we could attract, without Mr Slappy telling bare faced lies, as luck would have it he’s very good at it.

We would have a choice of, Hughton, Howe, or some foreign coach few have heard of. There would be no Conte. Or Simeone. Great coaches wouldn’t happen because these people will not work under those circumstances.

Finally there’s the player recruitment. He may well have chosen badly in Janssen. Was he even his first choice? We will not find out for the foreseeable. It’s my opinion that the rest of the incomings were not his choice, nor is there a committee.

Nor it would seem anymore are there incomings anyway. One man rules there, and if you require further evidence, ask why AVB got a gagging order served on him??

We have a character running our club, who’s primary interest is money for him and Joe. Not THFC.

His ego will ensure that we remain stagnant at best as he can’t be seen to be had over on a deal, and I’d be willing to bet that Guardiola himself could not coach some of the current players we have to a higher level.

I thought £20mil sounded small too. Maybe that’s the profit. I should’ve asked. They dont do much the subys do most of the work. They just orchestrate. What happens to all the premises when land lords price them out? So all this about loads a money being generated for the local economy is all bollox then?

Mike, do you know of any articles that tackle the issue you mention there about stadiums rarely benefiting the locals? It’s been a long held contention of mine but I’ve not seen anything written on the subject.

Hey tappa,
Two questions ( just finished work catching up on the blog)
1. So you said on an earlier blog mace is getting 20mil for the 1 billion stadium? How much do they do? Seems small.
2. Your post about skipping stations on game day is spot on. We had a lively discussion about it awhile back. In my experience with stadium builds over here in usa. They rarely help local businesses. People get ferried in & out as quick as possible avoiding the area around. Or if the stadium is in a downtownish area local spots end up closing because businesses cant afford rent when the landlord renews the lease. Hence, despite many people being excited about a new stadium, I wasnt. This years superbowl is harry k favorite team versus the rams……….a team that made st. Louis fork over 10s of mil of tax payer dollars for their stadium. Too suck for years, then pick up and move…….now in the superbowl for the first time in 30 some odd years. I dont watch American football but wow, feel bad for there real fans.

Something that people rarely take into consideration is how poor a number of his top 4 competition has been over the past 3/4 years, I mean Leicester won the league FFS.
Jol , Arry, AvB, all had a significantly more established top 4 to fight against hence an Arsenal side who spent 20 odd years finishing 4th that we couldn’t get above with any of Utd City Chavs above to show how established it was.
Utd aren’t a patch on fergies Utd, Wenger was regressing year on year, Pool have been struggling to get back, Chavs r on a merry go round of hit n miss sack manager and City are well City even with their money can’t sustain a dominant era yet.
This is what Poch has ‘over come’ to put us in the Top 4 – a collapse.
But they’re all rebuilding while we stagnate , miss out, and don’t consolidate our position.

Take both of the points made above. The point I tried to make is that we won’t get better under this lot. I think the fear factor is a great motivation. The candidates we will be linked with will not have that. Top coaches have that, no top coaches will work under these conditions

For me he’s a manager whos managed to get us in the top four regularly with no help (exactly what he was brought in to do “get us into the top four youl never be sacked” whilst playing ok football. Makes him a great manager/coach in my book. Only the players who weren’t good enough will be coating him off in the future. . We’re lucky to have him. He’s the best thing levys ever done at TOTTENIC

Poch is a great coach, but isn’t a great manager.
And to say this does not mean he should be out the door it’s just what he is.
Tactically he lacks in the big games (not group matches or the odd prem game v top 6) the Big matches where it’s all or nothing.
I personally can’t stand the cryptic ramblings of the guy don’t even start with Brave talk if u know the reality is it ain’t gonna happen, there are more sensible/truthful ways of carrying out your Buisness it’s far too smoke n mirrors.
He is in an impossible situation without investment but he’s far too accepting of it all and with the pending loss of Toby Dembele & possibly CE this teams progress is on the brink and just like the previous blog believing something is going to get better and looking at the evidence are 2 separate things.
I believe Pochs total interest in transfers and self belief he can polish turds is just as culpable for this project when it collapses as Old Danny boy

I think that’s a pretty accurate summary of the managers achievements. Spurs are a team punching far above their weight ,in terms of the playing staff and investment in it. No other manager in the premier league would have got us to where we finished last year, or where we are now.
Should potch jump I believe the club will fall into free fall with our key assets looking for pastures new. We are lucky that Harry has stuck with us for so long but that won’t last forever.
While all this is happening our chairman and his family are looking to enrich themselves with the new stadium and its potential developments and contract awards, like in a banana republic.

He’s a manager at the top of his game. A lot like a number of our players. Aurier, Davies, Sissoko…. decent enough but never likely to win anything wherever they play.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s done a fantastic job and with one hand tied behind his back. But he doesn’t have that killer instinct. He wants to be the players friend. They don’t fear him in the way Utd players feared Fergie, or Chelsea players during Mourinho’s first stint.

Guardiola with all the advantages he has at City currently only two points ahead. Pretty unbelievable. Don’t know how Poch does it but hope it keeps up!
