Journalist Ben Jacobs has shared the latest update after reports suggesting Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly being targeted for a takeover by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani after his failed attempt to buy Manchester United.
According to a report in The Mirror, after failing to secure a deal with Manchester United, Sheikh Jassim could now turn his attention to Spurs.
The report claims that Levy has previously met with Qatari-based groups in order to secure further investment, but a deal hasn’t materialised as of yet.
However, according to Jacobs, as of now no discussions have been held between Sheikh Jassim and Tottenham.
He also claims that Sheikh Jassim was only desperate to take over Manchester United and is not passionate about finding another Premier League club to invest in.
He told GiveMeSport:
“There’s been links with Spurs and Inter. And again, I’m told that at this stage, there’s been no discussions for either of those clubs either.
So there’s no guarantee that Sheikh Jassim has a burning hole in his pocket to buy a football club.
Sources indicate that this was about Manchester United, rather than finding a club, and if Qatar therefore are to invest in another big club, through whatever means, I’m not convinced that it will be specifically Nine Two Foundation and Sheikh Jassim.”
This is not the first time Spurs have been linked with an investment from Qatar. Back in January, it was being reported that Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of PSG and chairman of Qatar Sports Investments, met with Daniel Levy.
The report claimed that the PSG owners were hoping to secure a ‘minority investment‘ in a Premier League club and the meeting with Levy was a ‘kickoff meeting rather than anything advanced‘.
However, there have been no talks of any takeover or a Qatari investment since then until now.
Tottenham are doing great both on and off the pitch. After a turbulent last couple of season, things seem to be settling in at the club. The hiring of Ange Postecoglou seems to be a masterstroke. The Australian has come in and made an instant impact.
There have been other changes behind the scenes as well. The club has hired Scott Munn and the new Chief Football Officer and Johan Lange as the new sporting director with Daniel Levy said to be taking a step back from football operations and putting the trust in the new appointments to do their job.
A win against Fulham will take Spurs back to the top of the Premier League table, two points ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal.
