‘I’m sure’ – Journalist claims Spurs have not given up on ‘brilliant’ €60m star; expects club to make a move

Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni is still on Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer list, according to journalist Carlo Garganese.

Antonio Conte was said to be very interested in signing the ‘brilliant‘ Inter Milan defender in the summer but a move did not materialise due to the strict price tag of €60m Inter put on him. After Spurs failed to agree a deal for any of their main targets, they signed Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet on loan as a stop-gap signing.

Fabrizio Romano ruled out Bastoni leaving Inter Milan in January last week while admitting that Spurs are after a defender and a midfielder in January.

However Garganese told GIVEMESPORT that Conte has not given up on signing him:

“They were pushing for him last summer when Tottenham were looking for centre-backs, they wanted a left-sided centre-back and they ended up going for Lenglet, but we don’t know if that’s going to be a long-term solution there.

“I’m sure he’s on their list, he was definitely on their list this summer. Obviously, there’s still a way to go before next summer, but I’m sure he’s still on there.”

There has been a dip in form of the defender recently who has just played full 90 minutes in only 4 games out of 11 in Serie A. However, a return to playing under Conte, under whom he appeared 74 times – the most of any manager – is thought to be something the player would be interested in, and could see the EURO champion and Scudetto winner return to his best,
