“I’m open to anything” – Tottenham target with 26 goals and 9 assists refuses to rule out a move away

Tottenham explored several striker options this summer before finalizing the club-record £65 million signing of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth.

Among the names under serious consideration was Lille’s prolific forward, Jonathan David.

The Lille star has been linked with a move to Spurs since a couple of transfer windows but the club did not make a move for him this summer, instead, decided to sign the former Bournemouth man.

David, who is in the final year of his contract with Lille, has been engaged in talks regarding a possible contract extension. In an interview with The Athletic, as reported by Sky Sports News, the Canadian striker confirmed that negotiations with Lille president Olivier Letang are ongoing, though the outcome remains undecided.

However, the striker refused to completely rule out a move away, stating that he is open to anything.

He said:

“Right now, we’re speaking with (LOSC president) Olivier Letang about a possible extension. We’ll see how that goes.”

“I’m open to anything. I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best leagues in the world.”

“And for me, it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges.”

Despite the extension talks, David drew interest from several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, West Ham, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

With his contract nearing its end, Lille had been open to selling him for a reduced fee of around £25 million. Aston Villa even made an attempt to sign David, but a deal could not be finalised.

David’s impressive form last season—netting 26 goals and providing 9 assists in 47 appearances—made him a highly sought-after player. His goal-scoring prowess would have made him a valuable asset for Tottenham, who continue to look for ways to bolster their squad.

While Spurs ultimately opted for Solanke, Jonathan David remains a potential target for the future.

His pace and clinical finishing could fit well within Ange Postecoglou’s system, and Tottenham may revisit their interest as they continue to strengthen their attacking options.
