“I’m making my evaluations directly” – Antonio Conte fires warning shot to Tottenham squad ahead of the January window

By Eddie Razo -

The January window is a few weeks away, and these last couple of matches heading into 2022 could be the last for some to impress manager Antonio Conte.

After their UEFA Conference League loss to NŠ Mura, Conte had some remarks ahead of their Sunday against Burnley FC. The Italian tactician stated that type of mindset a player needs to have to play for Tottenham.

‘For sure, we need players with the right mentality and with the quality, players that deserve to play for Tottenham and aspire to be competitive, to fight for this shirt, to win something,” Conte said, whose remarks were relayed by the Daily Mail.

“For sure, we need this (…) I’m making my evaluations directly, not through the TV or through other persons, but directly, and for sure, we need to improve a lot to reduce the gap with the top teams. I want to be honest. I repeat, I’m not scared to face this situation, but it is important that everybody understands.”

January will see some players depart, but not everyone will be leaving, considering the short time to get deals done. However, a good display over these next few weeks could allow a player to get a more extended look in the second half of the season.

The Daily Mail has already compiled their list of players that need to either stay or go, and some supporters have theirs. Nonetheless, Conte will have the last say in who survives the possible departures as he begins to implement his vision.

It is more about the list of stayers as I have posted before
“Make your list of players who must stay”

3 great players are enough to have a really strong first 11, maybe enough to get 4th.I’d worry about that before adding squad players(Levy’s MO). It’s not like we’re playing in the CL or anything. Lo Celso, Dele, Sanchez, Bergwijn and Winks aren’t playing anyway and have zero impact with whatever game time they get. No point in keeping them. Let’s say we could only get an average of 15m per player, that’s 75m we could spend on one world class player. Selling Ndombele could finance half of another. We’ll make it back if we get 4th.

He’s toxic. I picked that up from the documentary. Mourinho gave him amazing advice and he looked disinterested. He constantly throws tantrums. And yes, lazy AF. My least favorite player at the club, Ndombele in 2nd.

Every blog and YouTube channel is full of fans with their own list of neer do wells.

I have my own list. Sadly that long list won’t bring in much money and if sold would need replacing with quality which is expensive.

We are in trouble on all fronts.

A popular lazy player? He’s toxic.

Any respectable professional sports outfit get rid of the toxic dross.

I agree with your point regarding the Toxic Personalities and adding new players. LEVY will have to accept Bargain Basement offers in most cases though.

I dont think Dele is toxic, unlike NDom, who I think comes across as a bad apple. Dele is probably very popular. Just lazy AF.

If you terminate a contract you have to pay it out in full, it would actually be cheaper to just sell him for £0.01 :-O

Not much chance of that happening either I’d say!

We’re in a spot where it might be more important to get rid of toxic personalities than to actually add new players. Dele HAS to leave in January. He’s a negative influence, period. We don’t need Sanchez if we have Rodon and Tanganga as back up. Winks and Ndombele are finished. Sell those players and bring in a creative midfielder. That has to be first priority and it must happen now. A CB would be nice. A striker perhaps on loan is realistic. Jovic? Or sell Bergwijn and Lo Celso to finance one. We had the chance to sign Ings, but of course Levy blew it as per usual. Just back the manager, he’s a class act. He’s even more hardcore than Mourinho.

We really need to get several out in January even if it means terminating their contracts like we did with Aurier (ironically a much better player than some that are still with us), otherwise they are going to hang around like a bad smell and their bad vibes will just make things worse. They will radiate negativity to those around them. If we don’t act strongly in January then Conte my not be there to oversee the next summer transfer window…
A drastic situation calls for drastic action. The status quo as it is now is not acceptable. We can’t fall any lower.

I agree, only so much can be done in Jan but a couple of shrewd deals, a decent, experienced central defender would be a great help. I’d send Rodon and Tanganga out in loan for regular football if that happens.

I don’t think people should be jumping up and down if we haven’t done much on January. Like you say, next summer will be the real acid test. Wouldn’t surprise me if Conte doesn’t begin next season as our manager though…

We know, Conte knows, the players know. But does Levy know or will he bury his head in the sand come January? 😀

Termination of contract.

We all know who they are, and I suspect that he does too now.

Be interesting to see what happens, I’ll not be too worried if there’s no clear out in January because its probably easier said than done, but if the usual suspects are here by the end of next summer then we’re in big trouble.

The problem is crap players on big contracts are not exactly the sort of saleable commodity people bite your hand off for. It’s all well and good saying “get rid of Dele” but someone has to want to come and give him over 100k a week, otherwise he might as well just refuse to go.
