‘I’m just a bit curious about it’ – Pundit questions Conte’s thinking behind summer signing

Tottenham Hotspur has been one of the clubs who are having a good summer strengthening their squad, with the marquee signing being Richarlison, who arrived from Everton. However, there are some questions over where the 25-year-old will play.

Harry Kane has the striker position, with the 28-year-old commanding that role and Son Heung-min commanding the left-wing and can play striker too. As a result, Leeds United legend John Giles told “Off The Ball” that he’s puzzled regarding where Richarlison will play.

Giles believes that manager Antonio Conte will put him in the right place, but the former Leeds man said he doesn’t rate the Brazil international. He adds that Richarlison isn’t a team player in his eyes.

“I never found him as a team player and I didn’t rate him that good, to be quite honest. So when he’s gone to Spurs, I think, what position is he going to play in? Son and Kane are two of the best strikers in the Premiership. And this fella as out and out center-forward, he’s a target man, there’s no doubt about that,” Giles said.

“I see him out of position on the right-hand side or left-hand side of Kane. I mean, Son does a great job on the left-hand side, but he’s very mobile, and he can play in any position. I don’t see Richarlison as that type of player, but obviously, that’s Conte’s decision, and he knows what he’s doing. I’m just a bit curious about it.”

During his time with Inter Milan, Conte had two strikers, Lautaro Martínez and Romelu Lukaku, where he made the partnership work, leading to a Serie A title. So it seems he wants to replicate that in north London next season with Kane and Richarlison.
