‘I’m certain…’ – Michael Owen’s exciting prediction about Spurs UCL campaign

Tottenham Hotspur began their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win against Marseille this week.

Summer signing Richarlison scored a brace on his Champions League debut to hand a vital win to Antonio Conte’s side in their group opener.

Spurs made some exciting additions to their squad during the summer transfer window and Conte will be hoping to compete on all fronts with added depth.

Spurs might not be ready to challenge the likes of Manchester City in the Premier League over the course of 38 games, but they have a squad capable of doing well in the knockout competitions.

The Champions League will certainly be a competition the London club will look to do well in, this season.

According to Michael Owen, Spurs should do well in the European competition this season and he has revealed that he would not be surprised if they managed to make it to the semi-finals.

“That’s a decent forward line now at Tottenham,” said Owen to BT Sport. “They’ve got a great mix, I think they could go far in this competition.”

“I’m certain they will get to the knockout stages. I wouldn’t be surprised if they got to a semi-final. They’re a very good team, they’re a lot better than they were last year, they’ve got a great team, great stadium, great players – that team is going places.”

There is no doubt that Tottenham have a top-class attacking unit at their disposal and Conte is a supreme tactician. The Italian manager knows how to shut out the opposition and grind out results.

Combine that with the number of matchwinners at Tottenham, and they look like a formidable outfit.

It will be interesting to see how far they advance in the Champion League.

Conte’s record in Europe is fairly abysmal compared to his domestic league record. Strange really.
