Tottenham had an eventful transfer window this summer.
The Londoners managed to bring in seven new faces to strengthen their squad but Antonio Conte feels that Spurs are still not equipped to challenge the top teams.
Tottenham fulfilled the basic requirements in the window according to the Italian and he believes that they will need other signings if they want to win trophies.
The Spurs boss further reflected on the £20 million signing of Djed Spence from Middlesbrough. The youngster impressed in the Championship last season and sealed a move to the Premier League club subsequently.
Conte feels that Spence is a real prospect for the club and he is an investment for the future. But he also enthused that Spurs need players who can come in and improve the squad immediately.
Conte said (via Dan Kilpatrick): “Djed was an investment of the club. He’s a perfect prospect for Tottenham. But for sure if we want to win we need other signings. I want to be very clear about this.”
There is no doubt that Spurs have added a lot of depth and quality to the side. It will be interesting to see if they can push for a trophy this season. The likes of Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Clement Lenglet and Ivan Perisic in particular, could be key players for the club this season.
I agree, that is the only conclusion one can draw from his presser.
If Conte goes, then we can probably say goodbye to ‘European Football’ for a while…. unless we get a rare stroke of luck with the next manager.
Conte needs to keep this pressure on as one of them will have to blink first, and it won’t be Levy as shown to Jose.Conte’s managerial history shows us he doesn’t stay long at any club,so I don’t see him extending beyond next summer.I don’t see Levy bowing to his demands, not totally anyway.
Hopefully Kane will know this and won’t be fooled into signing an extension by Levy’s smoke and mirrors. And get rid of his agent brother.
It’s not just what Conte said, but the unhappy ‘pained’ expression he had when he said it. Conte was not fully happy with the transfer window
Our transfer started from a A/A+ straight down to a C/D by the end of it. Of course I would of given an F is some of the quite frankly laughable names we were in for actually signed for us.
Richarlison gets a lot of hate, and yes while overpriced ( I think thats just down to how this crazy window went with all the cray money being thrown lef right and centre) I think he does provide something either off the bench or from the start that we never had before. Of course Jesus would have been better but there was no way he would come to us and play second fiddle. And he comes off as the type who would be a disruption in the dressing room if things didnt go his way.
Perisic is the only proper upgrade we have from all the players we brought in.
Bissouma might need more time, Dont forget he was playing for a classy playing Brighton side and now has to play well some form of anti-football 😀
The rest all are just classic Levy. Nothing has changed in that regard. Teases you with something nice and then rams your throat with the normal shite he delivers
But i do believe that Conte is slowing losing out on the Aces he holds over Levy. He can complain(rightly so) about missed opportunities in the transfer window but his stubborness is costing us and it is slowly eroding away at our players i.e. Son who always plays with a smile but aint smiling so he knows the football is dire. And I know that Levy is the type that will look for any kind of weakness to justify to the baord and to the fans that he “couldnt trust” Conte with the funds “available”
Exactly, all these Levy lovers can’t seem to see through him.
There’s nothing subliminal. Conte hasn’t signed an extension has he?
Conte is keeping up the pressure on Levy and so he should. Spurs have fulfilled the basic/normal requirements of a top tier club in this transfer window, but ultimately nothing more. In fact ENIC’s spending, in the latter stages of the window, has been eclipsed by the likes of Chelsea, United, Newcastle and even West Ham. Conte knows it and hence his mood has darkened slightly since the initial contentment he was manifesting in response to our early, promising, start, to the transfer window, prior to the pre-season friendlies.
I can’t imagine he was too impressed by us being linked to Dan James, whilst Chelsea, United, Newcastle and yes, even West Ham, were hoovering up 50 million plus signings in the latter stages of the window. The subliminal message from Conte to Levy is as follows. The team has weaknesses, which have not been addressed and either those weaknesses are remedied in the next two transfer windows, with high quality additions, so that we can really challenge for honours, or I walk.
