Juan Foyth has admitted that he would be prepared to leave Tottenham to find regular first-team football.
The Argentine defender has only featured three times for Jose Mourinho and not since his error in the 2-2 draw at Norwich on December 28.
This is Foyth’s third season on the fringes and the 22-year-old needs to start playing to really get his career going.
Foyth has admitted that he would love the opportunity to do that at Spurs but otherwise would look for another club.
Speaking to TNT in his homeland, Foyth said: “You always want to play to feel like a player and feel good. It isn’t easy not to play either.
“But I don’t know, we have to wait now for the transfer window to open. If I am going to have opportunities here, I will be very comfortable. And if they won’t count on me, the best thing will be to find another club.
“I would like to stay in Europe, all leagues have a high level. My wish is to play at the highest level as long as I can. The main thing is to play.”
So if Foyth’s message is ‘play me or sell me’, what is the answer?
I’ve always thought there was a footballer in Foyth waiting to be unearthed, but have never been convinced that was as a Premier League centre-back.
I’d be tempted to see what Foyth can offer as a holding midfielder. Eric Dier wants to revert to a centre-back so the two could swap roles to create fresh options in two positions that need them. We aren’t going to be granted the resources to find all of the solutions to our squad in the transfer market.
If that transition into midfield isn’t on the cards, then I’d sell the kid.
