“If I was the manager, there’s no way that player’s playing for me again” Pundit slams Spurs star

Noel Whelan would not consider playing Serge Aurier again if he was the manager of Tottenham after the Ivorian stormed out on his teammates in their game against Liverpool.

The full-back had been criticised for his role in Liverpool’s opener just before halftime, and he was substituted at the interval.

Reports say that he stunned his teammates with his reaction after being told he was at fault in the lead up to the goal and left the stadium with the second half still to play.

He missed Spurs’ next game against Brighton. No one knows if he will be recalled for the match against Chelsea, but Whelan says he has not acted properly and shouldn’t be considered for selection again.

He said the defender should have remained in the stadium after being removed from the match to support his teammates from the sidelines because he was being paid to do so.

“As much as you may be disappointed with a manager’s decision, you’re getting paid by the club and you’ve got to be a professional and a role model there,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“We’re seeing people that think they’re bigger than the club – no one’s bigger than the club. Simple as that.

“If he’s stormed out of the club, not only has he disrespected the club and the manager, he’s also disrespected the players.

“He should be there supporting them, simple as. If I was the manager, there’s no way that player’s playing for me again. It’s as simple as that.”
