Tottenham Hotspur have had a season to forget so far, and they are currently languishing in 16th place in the Premier League table.
It has been a disastrous campaign for them, and very few would have expected them to be closer to the relegation zone at the start of the season. They were expected to fight for Champions League qualification and domestic trophies.
There is no doubt that they have a talented squad, and they have clearly underperformed.
However, they have made it to the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League and former Arsenal star Paul Merson believes that they are the most likely English club to win the competition this season.
Manchester United have made it to the final four as well, but Merson claims that it would be a massive challenge for the Red Devils, and Tottenham seem most likely to end up with the trophy out of the two English clubs.
Merson told Sportskeeda: “If I had to pick an English team to win the Europa League now, it would still be Tottenham. Athletic Club will be a massive challenge for Manchester United. The fact that the final will be held in Bilbao is added motivation for the La Liga club.”
Can Tottenham win the Europa League?
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can go all the way in the European competition. It would not only help them secure Champions League qualification for the next season, but it would end their prolonged wait for silverware.
It would be a huge boost for Tottenham if they could end the season with a trophy. It would not only lift the spirits around the club, but it would also help them attract top-quality players in the summer.
