Identity Crisis XI 0 Leicester City 2

This was less a ‘bad day at the office’ as a Personal Day, where Spurs didn’t show up and the reason is buried somewhere in the confidential depths of HR. José Mourinho described it as a strange game, and if one steps back from what was in the main tough viewing, the Foxes won via unconventional routes, a penalty and an own goal.

That said, the penalty was entirely justified, another unwelcome addition to the Serge Aurier blooper reel which many of us had kinda hoped was a thing of the past, done with. The own goal was also – like most own goals – the product of pressure. So no violins on either front.

Mourinho also told the BBC that it wasn’t a “big” game with neither side “playing very well” which is at best delusional. Leicester City pressed more convincingly and ultimately took all the points. Tottenham took none of the points. Whilst I remain a fervent Mourinho fan-boy, this type of reply is worrisome.

Stoke next, swiftly followed by Wolves away, if memory serves.
