“I wouldn’t rule out a late transfer” Journalist believes Tottenham could make a big deadline day signing

By Mehdi Gokal -

Journalist Tom Barclay has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur might consider making a deadline day move for players like Romelu Lukaku or Dusan Vlahovic, given the uncertainty surrounding their current striking options.

Barclay speculated that if Richarlison doesn’t perform well and score goals in upcoming matches against Manchester United, Bournemouth, and Fulham in the cup, Tottenham might feel the need to reinforce their striking department.

Speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, Barclay offered his opinion on the situation involving Richarlison and Tottenham’s pursuit of another striker:

“I do wonder that if in two weeks if Richarlison hasn’t scored against Man United, Bournemouth and Fulham in the cup, Tottenham might think we need a striker and Richarlison isn’t going to carry this burden.

I thought he actually played quite well against Brentford, but I wouldn’t rule out a late transfer deadline day dash for Lukaku or Vlahovic or someone.”

Tottenham faced a setback with the departure of star striker Harry Kane, who joined Bayern Munich for a significant fee of £100 million.

The transfer concluded just days before the start of the new season, leaving new manager Ange Postecoglou with limited time to adjust.

While the club has been strongly linked with Gent striker Gift Orban and reportedly expects to make a move for him before the transfer window closes, there have also been speculations about Tottenham’s interest in Dusan Vlahovic and Romelu Lukaku.

Barclay’s comments come after Fabrizio Romano indicated that Tottenham seemed keen on trusting Richarlison as their primary striker.

However, Richarlison’s performance against Brentford might have prompted further consideration of bolstering the attacking options.

The coming matches could play a decisive role in determining whether Tottenham pursues other strikers before the transfer window deadline.
