“I would say no” – Premier League winner urged to reject any offer from Tottenham

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former striker turned pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has advised Vincent Kompany to reject the potential offer from Tottenham Hotspur amid links between the Belgian manager and the Premier League club.

Kompany has recently led Burnley to a promotion to the Premier League in his first full season in charge, and Agbonlahor believes he should continue his tenure at Burnley.

Agbonlahor praised Kompany’s achievements with Burnley and urged him to continue his work with the club, even if they face relegation in the Premier League.

He argued that Kompany’s success in the Championship would still attract Premier League jobs and that he could potentially follow in the footsteps of clubs like Sheffield United and Leeds United, who successfully made the jump from the Championship to the Premier League.

Agbonlahor also expressed concerns about the current state of Tottenham Hotspur as a club, implying that it may not be an ideal destination for Kompany. He suggested that Kompany should focus on building a competitive team at Burnley by bringing in the right players during the summer transfer window and attempting to surprise the Premier League, just like other promoted teams have done in the past.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Agbonlahor stated:

“I can see why they’re looking at Kompany, but if i was Kompany I would say no. Capital letters, NO.

“He’s got Burnley into the Premier League, give it a go with Burnley and even if he didn’t keep Burnley up, what he done with them in the Championship is still going to attract Premier League jobs.

“The way Spurs are at the moment as a club, why would you touch that?

“Why would you leave Burnley… he could, in the summer, bring in the right players and have a good go with Burnley and shock the Premier League.”

“You know like Sheffield United did, Leeds did? He could do that with Burnley.”

Vincent Kompany, who had a successful playing career as a central defender, joined Burnley as a manager in 2022 and has quickly made a mark by leading them to a Championship title which will be their first trophy since 2016.

He’s not the only manager linked with the job. The likes of Ruben Amorim, Julian Nagelsmann, Brendan Rodgers, and Luis Enrique are those also linked with the job.
