“I think there will be” – BBC man makes exciting Newcastle vs Tottenham prediction

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham rebounded from their 1-1 draw against Leicester City in the season opener with a commanding 4-0 victory over Everton last week.

Now, Spurs are set to face one of their toughest challenges yet, as they travel to St. James’ Park to take on Newcastle United this Sunday.

Football pundit Chris Sutton has offered his insights on the upcoming clash, predicting a high-scoring and thrilling encounter between the two sides.

Sutton believes that Tottenham have the upper hand and could emerge victorious in what is expected to be a goal-filled match.

He pointed out that Newcastle, under the guidance of Eddie Howe, have struggled to find their rhythm so far this season.

The former Chelsea man noted that the Magpies are still in the process of settling in, and Howe may not have secured all the players he had hoped for during the transfer window, which could be impacting their performance.

This was evident in their recent 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on the 2nd matchday.

In contrast, Sutton praised Tottenham’s impressive performance against Everton, particularly highlighting the team’s attacking capabilities and overall play under manager Ange Postecoglou.

He anticipates that the encounter at St. James’ Park will be a dynamic, back-and-forth contest, with plenty of action resembling the fast pace of a basketball game.

Sutton ultimately predicts a 3-2 victory for Spurs, backing Postecoglou’s side to claim all three points in what promises to be a captivating match.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the former English footballer stated:

“Eddie Howe’s team haven’t quite clicked. I don’t think it’s a really settled Eddie Howe because he hasn’t got the players in so far which I think he would’ve wanted.

“I thought Spurs were excellent against Everton. I think there will be goals in this game, there can’t not be. But this will be toe-to-toe, this will be like a basketball match. I’m going to back Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs.”

As Tottenham build momentum, this away fixture could play a crucial role in shaping their campaign early on.
