“I just can’t see this transfer happening” – Club insider offers pessimistic update on potential Tottenham transfer

Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to make a move for Monaco right-back Vanderson before the transfer window closes, according to football journalist John Wenham.

He expressed doubts about the potential signing, suggesting that a pursuit of the Brazilian defender would only make sense if Pedro Porro were to leave the club.

Wenham questioned the rationale behind targeting Vanderson, given Tottenham’s current depth at right-back.

With Porro established as the preferred starter and Djed Spence providing solid backup, Wenham believes there is no urgent need for an additional signing in that position.

In an interview with Tottenham News, Wenham stated:

“If we were looking to sign Vanderson, what does that mean for Djed Spence? I just can’t see this transfer happening if I am honest. I’m very happy with Porro as our starting right-back and Spence as the backup. However, perhaps Vanderson is part of a long-term list, and if Porro was to leave the club at any point, we would then move to sign him.”

Vanderson, a 23-year-old known for his versatility as both a right-back and a right wing-back, has impressed in Ligue 1.

Last season, he made 23 appearances for Monaco, contributing three goals and one assist, showcasing his attacking capabilities.

His contract with the French club runs until June 2027, highlighting his long-term value to Monaco .

Despite Vanderson’s talent, Tottenham seems content with their current options. Pedro Porro has had a promising start to the season, including scoring in Spurs’ opening Premier League game against Leicester City.

Meanwhile, Djed Spence, who had a productive loan spell at Genoa, has been reintegrated into Ange Postecoglou’s squad and featured in both of the club’s league matches this season.

Given the strong performances from both Porro and Spence, signing Vanderson doesn’t appear to align with Tottenham’s immediate needs.

As the transfer window nears its end, Spurs seem poised to stick with their current right-back options rather than pursuing a move for the Monaco defender.
