‘I guess….’: Former Tottenham star makes prediction about summer signing’s debut season

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent expects club-record signing Dominic Solanke to score at least 15 goals in his debut season.

The North London club did a decent job of finishing fifth in the Premier League last season after losing Harry Kane very late in the transfer window and deciding against signing a replacement. While they had coped well, Ange Postecoglou had made it his priority to bring in a world-class striker ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Tottenham smashed their club record and forked out £65 million to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth. While he had done wonders for the Cherries, the former Liverpool striker now has the pressure of a massive price tag. Things haven’t been easy for him at his new club, but he did get off the mark against Brentford last time out.

Darren Bent has now predicted how many goals the 27-year-old could score in his first season at the North London club.

While speaking on TalkSPORT, the 40-year-old said via TBR: “Yes, minimum (15 goals this season). I guess for him and playing in that team with the creativity they have got. If he gets 15 to 20 for Tottenham, that is still a really good season. 15 to 20 is a good season.”

Solanke was already subject to a lot of criticism after failing to score in the initial matches. While he had only been on the pitch for a limited amount of time, there were already question marks on Spurs’ club-record signing. But, he has managed to calm things down with his first goal against Brentford.

He will look to build on it and Bent feels he could get to around 15 to 20 goals in his first season at Spurs. The English international had scored 21 goals last season. He is now playing with much better players who will provide him with quite a lot of opportunities, as a result, the former Tottenham striker feels Solanke should find the back of the net on 15 occasions at least throughout the 2024/25 season.
